SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, if you have more than one resource with the same name, when you drag any resource with this name from the Resource Assignment dialog box to a task, the first resource in the list that has this name is assigned to the task.

WORKAROUND

To assign multiple resources with the same name to tasks in a project, use the following steps (the following example assumes your project contains Task1 and Task2, and two resources named Jane with resource ID numbers 1 and 2):
  1. From the View menu, choose More Views.
  2. From the Views list, select Task Entry and choose Apply.
  3. On the Gantt chart, select Task1.
  4. Select the Task Form (the bottom view of the Task Entry view). In the resource ID field, type 1 and choose OK.
  5. On the Gantt chart, select Task2.
  6. Select the Task Form (the bottom view of the Task Entry view). In the resource ID field, type 2 and choose OK.
The resource Jane with ID number 1 is assigned to Task1, while the resource Jane with ID number 2 is assigned to Task2.
