File Copy from CD-ROM to Floppy Creates Extraneous 0-byte File (113131)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server 3.1
This article was previously published under Q113131 SYMPTOMS
If files copied from CD-ROM to floppy disk contain more data than one
floppy can hold, all disks except the last disk in the set will contain an
extraneous 0-byte file.
CAUSE
File Manager creates an empty file as part of a test to see if the file to
be copied will fit on the disk. File Manager is not removing this empty
file as it should.
WORKAROUND
At the moment, the only workaround is to delete the 0-byte file from the
floppy manually.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT
Advanced Server version 3.10. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as soon as it becomes available.
