Works for Windows: GP Fault When Cutting Many Range Names (110825)

SYMPTOMS

If you select and cut a column that contains many range names, you may receive a general protection (GP) fault. The error usually occurs either in module MSWORKS.EXE or GDI.EXE. You may also receive one or both of the following messages:
Not Enough Memory for Undo.

-or-

Not Enough Memory: Fonts may be incorrect.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works for Windows versions 2.x and 3.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Works has a 32K area of memory in which to store range names. If the information you select and cut contains so many range names that it exceeds the space allowed to store them, a GP fault occurs.

The number of range names you can cut without exceeding the memory limit depends on how much memory each range name requires. A rough estimate is that you can exceed the memory limit at approximately 800 range names, but this number may vary greatly depending on the size of each name.
