This article was previously published under Q109968 SYMPTOMS
In Works 2.0 or 3.0, the following error message occurs when you copy or cut and then paste data in the Spreadsheet or Database module:
Source and destination areas are different shapes. The current selection
has different dimensions than the information you are pasting. Change
the selection or select only a single cell at the top-left of where you
want to paste the information.
In Works versions 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a, the following error message occurs
when you copy or cut and then paste data in the Spreadsheet or Database
module:
The clipboard contents cannot be pasted here. Make sure the destination
is as large as the information you want to paste, or select only a
single cell where you want to paste.
This will occur under the following scenarios:
- The entire Database document was selected in List view by
using Select All from the Edit menu or by clicking
Select All (to the left of the left-most column and above Row
1), and the information was copied or cut and then pasted into a
Spreadsheet. This occurs because Select All selects all
32,000 rows in the Database module and the Spreadsheet module only
has 16,384 rows.
- The number of rows copied from the Database list view or Spreadsheet
cannot be evenly divided into the rows selected in the Spreadsheet
or Database list view for pasting the information. For example, four
records were copied from the Database but five full rows were
highlighted in the Spreadsheet before pasting.
- The number of columns copied from the Database list view or
Spreadsheet cannot be evenly divided into the number of columns
selected in the Spreadsheet for pasting. For example, two columns
were copied from the Database list view but only one full column was
highlighted in the Spreadsheet before pasting.
RESOLUTION
Select an area to paste the information equal to or a multiple of the area
copied.
If copying an entire database, select only the area that contains data, for
example by using the SHIFT+CONTROL+END key combination from the beginning of the document.
