Starting Page Number Incorrect on Converted Works 2.0 Document (109118)

SYMPTOMS

When a Works 2.0 label document is opened in Works 3.0 and converted to the Works 3.0 format, print preview shows the starting page number as LBL 2 instead of LBL 1.

Saving the document in Works 3.0 format does not correct the problem.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works version 3.0 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Works version 3.0a for Windows.

To have a correct starting page number, create a new label in a new Word Processor document. The information in the existing document can be copied and pasted into a new Works 3.0 Word Processor document using the following steps:

Highlight just the placeholders in the converted Works 2.0 document.
From the Edit menu, choose Copy.
From the File menu, choose Create New File.
From the Tools menu, choose Envelopes/Labels.
Select the Mailing Labels tab and place your cursor in the Label section.
Press CTRL+V on your keyboard to paste the copied information.
Select the correct label size from the list or choose Custom and enter the appropriate measurements.
Choose Create Label and save the document.

Steps to Reproduce Situation

Open a Works 2.0 label document in Works 3.0.
From the File menu, choose Print.
Select Mailing Labels under What To Print.
Choose the Preview button.
Choose Yes when Works asks if you want to convert earlier Works mailing labels to the Works for Windows 3.0 format.
In the Choose Database box, select the database to use.
Choose OK to merge all the records.

The starting page numbers say LBL2 instead of LBL1.
