WINNT: TrueType Problems on Some Laser Printers (108772)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 3.1
This article was previously published under Q108772 SYMPTOMS
The Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet Plus and printers that emulate the
LaserJet Plus or the original LaserJet may have problems printing TrueType
fonts from Microsoft Windows NT version 3.1. Symptoms of this problem
include incorrect fonts, garbage characters, and missing characters in the
output.
CAUSE
Windows NT downloads TrueType fonts to PCL printers as HP Type 2 fonts. The
HP LaserJet Plus and many emulating laser printers do not fully support
this font format.
The Panasonic KX-P4450 and Brother HL-8 also exhibit this problem under
Windows NT.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use the original Hewlett-Packard LaserJet
driver so that TrueType fonts are printed as graphics.
