This article was previously published under Q107242 SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade from a LAN Manager server to Windows NT, in User
Manager you may notice some strange behavior. In the User Environment
Profile dialog box, instead of containing the proper path to your home
directory, the Local Path field contains a universal naming convention
(UNC) path. If you attempt to continue with this path, User Manager
informs you that the UNC path is invalid. You are required to enter a
drive letter in the Local Path field. Also, if you choose connect to
your home directory, the information in the Local Path field is not
reproduced and you must retype it.
Also, Winlogon will log you on with an invalid local path and assign
the home directory to the root of drive C without cautioning you.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows
NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the
latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server
version 3.1. For information on obtaining the Service Pack, query on
