Cannot Drag, Cut, or Copy AutoFilter Drop-down List (105412)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q105412 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel, you cannot drag, cut and paste, or copy and paste the
drop-down lists that are created when you use the AutoFilter to sort a
list.
WORKAROUND
If you want to move the AutoFilter drop-down lists, you must move the data
and click the AutoFilter command again.
STATUS
This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel.
MORE INFORMATION
Although it is not possible to drag, cut, or copy AutoFilter drop-down
lists, you can move them if you insert or delete columns or rows that are
to the left of, or above, the list range. For example, if there are
AutoFilter drop-down lists in cells E10:G10, and you delete column A, the
lists shift one column to the left; similarly, if you delete row 7, the
lists shift up one row.
