SUMMARY

To print continuous-feed labels on a dot-matrix printer, use the following instructions to determine the necessary settings.

WORKS FOR WINDOWS, VERSION 3.0x

Works 3.0 will automatically set up your labels correctly if the page length is divisible by the label vertical size. If it is not, use the following settings.

Create Label

  1. In a Word Processor document, choose Envelopes And Labels from the Tools menu. Select the Mailing Labels tab.
  2. Choose the Fields>> button.
  3. Choose the Database button, highlight the database, and choose OK.
  4. Insert the fields you want on your labels.
  5. Under Label Style, choose the Custom Label button.
  6. Under Number Of Labels, type the number of labels you want across the page and down the page. Under Label Spacing, type the desired horizontal and vertical dimensions. Choose OK.
  7. Set Margins, Paper Size, and Orientation according to your custom labels. Choose OK.
  8. When you are finished, choose Create Label.

Page Setup

  1. From the File menu, choose Page Setup. Select the Margins tab.
  2. Set your margins to the following settings:

    NOTE: These settings may vary with different labels/printers. You may need to adjust the top and left margins.

       Top Margin:       0       Page Length:    See instructions below
       Bottom Margin:    0       Page Width:     8.5
       Left Margin:    .12
       Right Margin:     0
       Header Margin:    0
       Footer Margin:    0
    						
    To calculate the page length, use one of the following methods:

    1. Measure the length from one horizontal label perforation to the next horizontal perforation below. -or-

    2. Use any multiple of the label's vertical spacing. (For example, if the vertical spacing is 1.5 inch, Page Length can be set to 1.5", 3", 4.5", 12", and so on.) To determine the vertical spacing, measure the length from the top edge of one label to the top edge of the next label below.
  3. Select the Source, Size And Orientation tab.
  4. Change the Page Size setting to User Define, and set the page width and length to match the above settings.

    NOTE: User Define measurements are in 1/100 of an inch.
  5. Choose OK to close Page Setup.

WORKS FOR WINDOWS VERSION 2.X

Page Setup & Margins

From the File menu, choose Page Setup & Margins and use the following settings.

NOTE: These settings may vary with different labels/printers. You may need to adjust the top and left margins.
   Top Margin:       0       Page Length:    See instructions below
   Bottom Margin:    0       Page Width:     8.5
   Left Margin:    .12
   Right Margin:     0
   Header Margin:    0
   Footer Margin:    0

Printer Setup

  1. From the File menu, choose Printer Setup.
  2. From the Printer Setup dialog box, choose Setup.
  3. Set Paper Size to match the Page Length and Page Width settings in the Page Setup & Margins dialog box (as described above).

Print Labels

  1. From the File menu, choose Print Labels.
  2. In the Database box, choose the database you want to use.
  3. In the Vertical box, enter the length from the top edge of one label to the top edge of the next label below.
  4. In the Horizontal box, enter the width from the left edge of the first label to the left edge of the label to the right.

    NOTE: For single column labels, measure the width of the label (distance from the left edge to the right edge of the label).
  5. In the Number Of Labels Across Page box, enter the number of labels across the page.
  6. Choose Preview to view your labels. If they look accurate, you can choose Print. Otherwise, review the options listed above and make the necessary adjustments.
