Print Queues and Their Associated Shares Disappear (100578)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2
This article was previously published under Q100578 SYMPTOMS
Print queues and their associated shares disappear after a couple hours.
CAUSE
This may be because you upgraded to LAN Manager 2.2 but did not upgrade
OS/2. The HPFS386 that ships with LAN Manager 2.2 is slightly different
than what shipped in earlier versions and may cause problems.
Other possibilities include:
- The controller does not have the correct bid.
- The SRVAUTO.PRO file is corrupted or contains invalid entries.
- HPREDIR is being used for a network printer.
RESOLUTION
As a possible workaround, you can reformat and install the OS/2 version
that ships with LAN Manager 2.2 OS/2. Before reformatting the drive, ensure
that you retain all your data by running Detach from within the Net
Administrator user interface. Once you have done this, locate and backup
these files:
NETACC.BKP
NETAUD.BKP
ACLBAKx.ACL
where x is each drive that was backed up.
For other possible causes:
- Make sure the controller has the correct bid.
- If you suspect Srvauto.pro file, try using a backup copy, if you have
one that contains all of the correct shares.
- If you are using HPREDIR for a network printer, re-install it and
rebuild the queues and shares.
