SUMMARY

With the NetWare Requester for NT, any share created by the (NWCS) Gateway Services for Windows NT is available to any Microsoft client, including RAS clients. The NWCS Gateway services are provided in the NWCS product to provide this functionality.

Previously, it was not technically possible for an AsyBEUI client to "bridge" to IPX/SPX and talk NCPs (NetWare Core Protocol) to a NetWare server for resource sharing. A client could use RAS to dial into a RAS server, and, depending on its protocol, send SMBs (Server Message Block) by means of either AsyBEUI or NetBEUI. The RAS server would pick up the traffic and send it to the NWLink stack using its NetBIOS interface capability. This allowed you to use IPX/SPX as the protocol between two Windows NT machines, but it was still sending SMB packets, and there was no way to translate an SMB packet into an NCP packet.
