Can't Run Shared File with X-Permission from EMS Wksta (100515)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2
This article was previously published under Q100515 SYMPTOMS
Trying to execute a file from a shared resource on server with X-permission
ONLY, and using expanded memory, on an MS-DOS workstation causes this
error:
Cannot execute <filename> : for MS-DOS version 5.0
Access Denied" : for MS-DOS version 6.0
CAUSE
This is caused when EMM386.SYS (or .EXE) with the RAM option tries to run
a file from a LAN Manager 2.2 MS-DOS workstation that uses expanded memory.
WORKAROUND
If you change the RAM option to NOEMS, this error does not occur.
Or, turn off the use of expanded memory with the option "LIM=NO" in the
[workstation] section of LANMAN.INI. The EMM386 driver then works fine
with options RAM and NOEMS.
Another solution is to add a (R)ead permission to the share drive: if the
share drive has both (R)ead and e(X)ecute permissions, no error occurs.
