    • All Desktops
To view and use the new streamlined "Modern" theme, your display monitor should be set to display thousands of colors. For users who cannot set their displays to use more than 256 colors, Mozilla.org recommends using the "Classic" theme for Mozilla.

To select the "Modern" theme after you have installed Thunderbird, open the Preferences dialog in the Edit pulldown menu of the Navigator component, select the "Appearence" menu, and then select the "Themes" option. Choose "Modern" from the list of themes displayed and select the OK button on the Preferences dialog.

    • Tru64 UNIX®
      • Tru64 UNIX® 5.1A or higher is required.
      • 64MB RAM minimum, 128 MB RAM is recommended.
      • 62MB free disk space on the /usr/opt partition
      • Java™ SDK 1.4.1 or later is required when using the Java™ OJI plugin.
      • Glib 1.2.10 or higher and Gtk+ 1.2.10 or higher are required only when not using the installed versions of these libraries (i.e when setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH).
      • Also, using the --disable-shm configure option when building your own Gtk+ libraries is recommended.

Release notes containing information specific to this version of the Thunderbird for Tru64 UNIX® are installed at:

    • file:///usr/doc/thunderbird/release_notes.html
  • Usage Instructions
  • The Thunderbird stores user specific application data under the $HOME/.thunderbird directory tree. It is highly recommended that you save a backup of and remove the $HOME/.thunderbird directory tree before running a newly installed version of the Thunderbird EMail and Newsgroup Client.

After the installation has completed successfully, any user can enter the following command from a terminal window or shell prompt to start the Thunderbird EMail and Newsgroup Client:

    • /usr/bin/X11/thunderbird

The /usr/bin/X11/thunderbird shell script sets the mandatory environment variables, MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, to the proper values before starting the Thunderbird EMail and Newsgroup Client. If these environment variables are set in the users environment prior to running /usr/bin/X11/thunderbird, they override the default values set by the /usr/bin/X11/thunderbird script. If the optional environment variables, TMPDIR, MOZ_PRINTER_NAME, and MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH are set in the users environment, the /usr/bin/X11/thunderbird shell script export these environment variables to the Thunderbird EMail and Newsgroup Client environment.

Passing the "--help" command line option to the /usr/bin/X11/thunderbird script displays the complete list of available command line options.
