Imap v1.6 by Iikka Ker„nen (c) 1997 URL: http://www.planetquake.com/ikq/utils.htm email: ikeranen@mail.student.oulu.fi Platform: DOS command line. Requirements: 250k of base memory. An utility that helps you create your own wall textures for games like Doom, Doom2 and Quake. Uses .pcx and .lmp and .wal files and 256-colour palette (320x200 VGA mode for display). This program only makes graphics, not stuff like wads. It would have been too hard to make this program to do everything for you, and then you wouldn't be able to use it with new games in the future. (I have added support for loading Quake2-style .wal files, but you can't save them - use pcx2wal for that) I wrote this program mainly for my own use, but I think somebody else might find it useful as well. It is not a thing that can make you a good artist if you aren't already; but if you can draw some graphics, this might help you to do a little better. What it does, then? The main point of this tool is, you can "mix" two pcx files together, taking the colours from one picture and shading from another. This makes you able to make different-coloured versions of textures very fast and easy. Also, this kind of effect is very rarely needed in any other graphic editing so you might not find it in programs like PaintShop Pro or PhotoStyler, and most such programs need converting to true colour and back every time you use advanced effects, which always harms the quality. Additionally, this program can make "flat" versions of textures, which means all shapes like bricks, rocks etc are removed so you can use them as a base for your own textures. And, you can make "bumpmaps" from (preferably black and white) pictures, selecting the angle where light comes from; or generate black and white images from textures to make it easier to edit them and finally apply them as shading pattern with your own colours. I have included a few example images, and a 320*200 picture that shows some images I have made with this program, and what are they made from. I have used Deluxe Paint for drawing the source pictures. There is more documentation in the file imap.doc, included in the zip file.
