Pakker Version 1.00 ------------------- This file describes the features of Pakker, the Quake PAK file editor. This product is freeware, and available for private home use only. It may not be resold or distributed with any commercial package without the author's permission. If you would like to request a commercial license, please contact me at the email address at the end of this file. Please note : This program is provided as-is, and you use it entirely at your own risk. Any loss of data is entirely your own fault, and I will not be held responsible. I suggest you back up PAK files before commencing any editing on them. Features -------- New File Pakker will allow you to create a new PAK file. Simply select the File|New option (or press the "New" toolbar button). A new file will be automatically created. Save File You can (of course) save the PAK file when you make changes. If you exit without saving your changes, you will be prompted to ask if you want to save the changes. Save File As You also have the ability to save a PAK file under a different name. A minor thing I know, but it saves time having to go to the Windows shell, and copy the file yourself. Undo Changes Pakker also allows you to the changes you make to a file since the last save. There are unlimited undo levels, though you can restrict the number of undos, or turn them off completely, if you are running short of memory. Adding Files Pakker allows you to add multiple files and/or directories from different directories. You can also recurse sub-directories when adding directories. Extracting Files You can extract multiple files from the Pak file. You can also maintain the internal PAK directory tree, for easy editing/adding. Deleting Files You can easily delete multiple files from the Pak file. Renaming Files You can rename files in the PAK. Simply click on the file name until the inplace edit appears, then type in the new name. Then hit Enter or change the focus for the change to be effected. If you change your mind, you can hit ESC (while you're still editing), or use Undo. Moving Files Pakker allows you to move files from one directory to another within the Pak file. Sorting You can also sort the directory list by name, type (extension), size, position in Pak file, and directory. Protecting the ID1 Pak Files There is an option to protect the Pak files in the ID1 directory. This is, by default enabled each time you run Pakker. You can turn this option OFF - thereby allowing you to edit the ID1 Pak files, but when you start the next session of Pakker, the protection is turned back on. There are no help files available, but what do you expect for free.
