This is very simple- you can get a righteous demon-shredding chainsaw to cut your opponents into meaty bits. That's all there is to it. Well, the details, if you can't figure them out: * The chainsaw is linked to the axe, weapon 1, and selected in preference to it. * Other players can tell if you're carrying one. (not just by sound, by vision as well). * You can take a chainsaw from an ogre, or you can pick one up that has been explicitly added to a level. Also, in deathmatch green armor will be replaced with chainsaws. * A saw is about as powerful as a quad ax. * A quad saw is lots of fun and very powerful- it hardly ever fails to gib your victim. * This is nasty against grunts, enforcers, knights and ogres. If you're any good you can take them out easily. Even HellKnights are no problem if you have enough room to keep backing up. I've also defeated Shamblers with this and only been hit once or twice. Scrags are no problem if they come down to where you can reach. However, if you're faced with a fiend, or especially a tarbaby (for obvious reasons) you should run away and come back when you have some ammo! And oh yeah, you can filet fish of course... * I took out the weapon switching when you grab a backpack. I didn't like it. I think this is a good weapon for deathmatch because it is a nice powerup over the axe- gives someone a permanent advantage when he runs out of ammo. I also believe this could be a fun addition to a custom made single player map- I think it balances ok with the standard set of weapons. If you'd like to add it to your modification, mail me and I'll get you some source code... (You can just add it to a map as a "weapon_chainsaw". There is an example map file and bsp included showing how. If you play this patch on deathmatch it will replace light armor with chainsaws, unless the map already has a chainsaw in it.) Why I made this: For a while I had been looking for a good chainsaw patch for quake. I could never find one, and eventually I decided it wasn't because I didn't know where to look. So when the new beta of QuakeMe came out I took the opportunity to test it out and made up this model. It looks almost ok for a first try (especially I ONLY used QuakeMe to make this, and that my mouse isn't even reliable enough to survive single-player with!). ============ Installation ============ Unzip this into a directory under quake, say \quake\chainsaw. Run quake -game chainsaw. Chop up monsters! ======= History ======= 1 Altered player model. You can tell if someone else has one! (also has a puny chasecam, impulse 17, that I used to test frames) Removed backpack weapon switch. .9b Fixed backpack bug. More meat. New bloody skin! New sampled sounds! Altered spawning. Added a demo (so now you can all see how poorly I play!) .5b First release ============= Availability ============= Wherever you got this from, that's where to get it!
