QBall (Public release) v1.5 ============================================ Released: 15 February 1997 This Quake C add-on is a fun and violent ballgame where the objective is to score goals and kill other players. Where to get this patch ======================= Visit the QBall Homepage at http://www.home.aone.net.au/yevs/ Credits ======= Quake C code: \ Textures: \ Maps: > -- Harvey Lee (Yevs) assassin@c031.aone.net.au Models: / Design: / Special thanks: Chris Lim a.k.a. Monkey - for helping out with playtesting and giving some good feedback Neil Ch'ng a.k.a. Noddy - for his suggestions All you people on the Internet who have checked out QBall. Features ======== * In-close melee with the axe! Lots of it! * Kick around a head, shoot it with your shotgun, or blast it with a grenade * New textures (including a great one of grafitti) * A lean, mean fighting referee (great fun blasting him with a grenade) * Teamplay * Scoring * External Cam! * Cool powerups! This is probably going to be the last version of QBall (for a while at least) The only regular updates will be bug-fixes and new map attachments. How to play =========== It's simple! Start quake with quake -game where is the directory you unzipped the pak0.pak file into. Start a multiplayer game. Set a time or frag limit. Set gametype to Deathmatch. Make sure teamplay is ON. Once in the game, type 'changelevel kfield'. You will start off in a changing room. This is a safe haven, you can't get hurt here (I hope). Choose a team by walking through a teleporter. To help you make your decision, press the [TAB] key (or type 'showscores' in the console) to bring up a listing of players currently on the server and their teams. Kick the ball around by running into it (you can kick it further if you jump into it). You can also make the ball shoot forward by hitting it with your shotgun. The shotgun is also useful for displacing another player. Your other weapon, the grenade launcher, can be used to clear the area of people, ball and referee. ****The only way you can hurt other players (or the ref) is to axe them!**** ****New in v1.5 - Fires of Hell powerup can also be used to attack**** To change teams, simply run up the lift and around to the other side of the stadium where there is a teleporter back into the changeroom. You will lose all goals and other stats. (N.B. You won't be able to run up the lift with the Ring of Kinetic Energy powerup. Wait for the powerup to finish first.) Powerups ========= There are three powerups in QBall: Quad Damage: The standard Quake Quad Damage. Ring of Kinetic Energy: Gives you the ability to knock others away as if you were a grenade. Top fun. Fires of Hell: Sets you head afire, and gives you the power to burn by touch. External Cam ============ The external cam can be toggled on and off by typing 'impulse 26' into the console. Scoring ======= Your find out your score just as in normal Quake. In QBall, there are some additional scoring opportunities: Goal - 3 points Assist - 2 points Frag - 1 point You lose 3 frags for an own goal (unless someone on the other team has touched the ball, in which case the other player will be credited with a goal) To get a breakdown of what you have achieved, type 'impulse 25' in the console.
