March/25/97 ================================================================ Title : slipcomp.bsp (slipgate research complex) Author : Bruce W. Krueger Email Address : Krueger@slip.net Description : New level for Quake with jumping puzzles and a dark industrial setting. (NO jumps as hard as rafters in E4M5) ================================================================ * Play Information * Single Player : Yes Cooperative : Yes (4 starts) Deathmatch : Yes (8 starts) Difficulty Settings : Yes (no nightmare) New Sounds : No New Graphics : No Demos Replaced : None ================================================================ * Construction * Base : New level from scratch ================================================================ * Comments * In Quake and Doom I kept expecting to see a big trans-dimensional research lab with huge machines, but there wasn't one, so I made what I thought such a level should look like. ================================================================ * How to use * EASY WAY: Copy slipcomp.bsp to quake\id1\maps (create the "maps" directory if you don't already have one), then start Quake the way you normally do, choose SINGLE PLAYER, then choose NEW GAME, then go thru the gate to select what difficulty you want, then push the ~ key to access the Quake console, then type MAP SLIPCOMP then enter. The down side of this method is that your slipcomp saves will overwrite your regular Quake saves. HARDER WAY: In your Quake directory make a directory named SLIPCOMP, inside the slipcomp directory make a directory named MAPS, put the unzipped file SLIPCOMP.BSP into the maps directory. It should look something like this: C:\QUAKE\SLIPCOMP\MAPS\SLIPCOMP.BSP If you are using Win95: Go to the MS-DOS prompt, then go to the Quake directory, then start Quake by entering: Q95 -GAME SLIPCOMP +MAP SLIPCOMP this will put you in the level in normal difficulty. Q95 -GAME SLIPCOMP +SKILL 0 +MAP SLIPCOMP Will put you in the level in easy difficulty. Q95 -GAME SLIPCOMP +SKILL 2 +MAP SLIPCOMP Will put you in the level in hard difficulty. If you are using DOS: Same as above except replace Q95 with QUAKE. This method puts your slipcomp saves into the SLIPCOMP directory and does not overwrite the saves from any other Quake games. ================================================================ Feel free to distribute this level as long as it is for non commercial purposes and this document is included.
