The ***STAR WARS*** .mdl by Jeff Sullivan ( SoftMCHINE@aol.com or Soft_Machine@juno.com ) What this is: This is a player .mdl that replaces normal skin textures with those from the Star Wars universe. It was designed for use by ReaperBots ver 0.8, but it will also work with any other patch that uses skins. What's included in the zip file: player.mdl h_player.mdl readme.txt (the one you're reading right now) How to use: Unzip the player.mdl and h_player.mdl file to the directory of the patch you want to use (i.e. c:\quake\rpbot), if you want to keep your old .mdl rename it to something else first. For instructions on how to use the skins within the game itself consult the readme.txt of the patch you are running. A little about this .mdl: This .mdl includes skins for Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Obi-wan Kenobi, and Emperor Palpatine designed by me. The head textures for these characters as well as Boba Fett and Darth Vader were designed by me as well. The other textures were designed by other authors, with mild fiddling done by me to the weapons. I apologize to the authors of these skins for not inluding their names, but I accidently lost them when I was cleaning out some files - if you e-mail me and let me know who you are I will give you credit in an updated version of this documentation. The skins I designed I tried to keep as close to the original concept of the character as possible, but for obvious reasons they have become somewhat "quake-ized" due to the palette in Quake and the shape of the player .mdl. For instance Obi-wan Kenobi has traded in his robe for a more favorable jacket in order to increase mobility (yeah right) and the emperor's robe is simply black (I tried and tried to make it look like a robe but it always looked like crap, if you've got a solution let me know). The skins: 0) Jedi Knight 1) Storm Trooper (white) 2) Boba Fett 3) Darth Vader 4) Emperor Palpatine 5) Obi-wan Kenobi 6) Bossk 7) Luke Skywalker 8) Chewbacca 9) 4-Lom 10) Han Solo 11) C3P0 12) Storm Trooper (grey) xx) Storm Trooper (w/ shoulder pads) xx) Bossk 15) Storm Trooper (w/ shoulder pads) A note on the order of the skins: Since this .mdl is designed with ReaperBots in mind the skins have been numbered according to the following outake from a reaperbots .txt file: The reaper bot assumes there are 16 skins in the player.mdl file (numbered 0 to 15). Skin 0 should be the default quake skin. Skin 15 is what the "bot only" team uses if skins are enabled. If the "show difficulty" mode is enabled, then skins 1 to 4 will be associated with progressively higher skill levels (e.g. skill 0 = skin 1, etc.). Otherwise, the bots will during deathmatch play choose any skin between 0 and 15. For teamplay, of course, the bots will share the skin of their human teammate if they aren't on the bot only team. Hence skins 1-4 are progressively "tougher" opponents, and skin 15 is used as the bot only team skin. The skins with "xx" are added in as filler to bring the total number to 16. Future enhancements: I've noticed a bug that has to do with the pants and shirt colors on a few of my skins, if you don't have the right colors for these the characters look a little screwy. You can fix this by changing your shirt and pants colors, but I intend to fix this when I have the time. I intend to replace the xx skins with some other characters, I'm thinking about a Sand Person from Tatooine, Lando, or maybe even Leia, who knows? I also intend to give the original authors credit if I find out who they are... "Legal" stuff: I would appreciate it if the skins I designed were not separated from the original .mdl, I don't mind if you want to play around with them on your own, just don't distribute them. You are free to distribute this stuff as much as you want, in fact I encourage it, as long as you keep this text file with it. If you want to use this .mdl for any other purpose let me know, I'd probably be willing to let you do it, but I want to know first - I put hours of work into this .mdl and I'd like to know what's happening to it. Thanks: Rene Post - for letting me obtain a beta version of QuakeME ver 2.4 Steve Polge - for designing the ReaperBots patch George Lucas - for the entire Star Wars universe Id Software - of course YOU - for taking the time to read this and use this .mdl (please e-mail me with comments or suggestions) Other stuff I've done: I've also completed one other skin for Todd McFarlane's Spawn. It's my first but its pretty damn good. It can be downloaded from most Quake ftp sites or by emailing me. I've also written config.cfg files for many of the most popular patches the use similar key bindings between all the patches.
