SGIXDeathManager v2.1 by Kenny Stevenson k.stevenson@qub.ac.uk At last for all you sgixdoom players out there a graphical front end to allow you to set up network games and add PWADs. No more time wasted on typing in a command line a few simple mouse clicks are sufficient. I know the executable name is a bit long but i recommend "mv SGIXDeathManager doom" for speed. For those of you interested v1.* was just a script file and v2.0 had no screen size selection (thank you to John Troyer for suggesting that). This was compiled on an Indy running 5.3 but has been tested on an Indy running 5.2 and should run under 6.* (I think). I think on the whole the GUI is self explanatory apart from the use of PWADS so here is a short explanation of how it works. If you select "Use a PWAD" when you press Play Doom a browser will appear. Find your first PWAD and press ready (Note: a single click selects a file or directory). The fields showing current directory and pattern can be changed. If you wish to add another PWAD respond yes to the prompt "Add another PWAD". The game should load up the selected PWAD. Only one diagnostic and that is "Error opening configuration file .sgixdm.cf" This file should be in the directory you play from and should contain six hostnames in alphabetical order including your own host. Your opponents must have the exact same file or the order of the hosts will be wrong when the game is started. There is a maximum of 64 characters per hostname. If your own hostname is not disabled when you press yes to a Network Game the value returned by gethostname(2) is not the same as your machine in your config file fix this or the interface will not work. Oh, and I have also assumed that sgixdoom is the executable and is in your path. example .sgixdm.cf file amelia cilla euler reynolds stokes wallace Keyboard Shortcuts In the main window will exit and will play doom. I hope you all enjoy using this as much as I have. If you find any major bugs or wish to comment on the interface please e-mail me. The Disclaimer is this. Permission to copy and distribute SGIXDeathManager in it's entirety, for non-commercial purposes, is hereby granted without fee, provided that this Readme file appears in all copies. This software has nothing to do with I.D. Games or Queen's University Belfast. One exception to this is Walnut Creek CDROM who may include it on their distributions and retail it if they desire. Thanks to Ronan Flanagan at Q.U.B for his suggestions about layout and function. Thanks to John Troyer(troyer@cgl.ucsf.edu) for having a look at version 2.0 and suggesting the screen size selection ( though I will continue to be a " -3 " man. If you want the source code for further development you will have to ask me really nicely. Kenny Stevenson
