README.txt 10 June, 2000 Directory contents for ftp://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/MME. This directory serves as a backup for the Multimedia Services for Compaq Tru64 UNIX component of the Factory Installed Software (FIS) provided on all Compaq Alpha workstations ordered with FIS. Compaq Tru64 UNIX V4.0E FIS When rebuilding Compaq Tru64 UNIX V4.0E FIS Image R03, use the following two files: ************************************************** MME242_FIS.tar XP1000_audio_patch.tar ************************************************** Compaq Tru64 UNIX V4.0F FIS UNIX V4.0F When rebuilding Compaq Tru64 UNIX V4.0F FIS Image R03, use the following two files: ************************************************** MME245_FIS.tar tktq31538_patch.tar ************************************************** Note: The final two files listed will actually work with either UNIX V4.0E, UNIX V4.0F, or UNIX V5.0. The tktq31538_patch.tar file addresses an audio recording problem on XP1000 workstations. ************************************************** MME300_patches_25April2000.tar ************************************************** Patches for Version 3 of MultiMedia Services for Compaq Tru64 Unix. This patch kit contains: README.txt libmmsess.so libsoftjpeg.so Libmmsess.so is a replacement library for the embedded ESS sound device. There was a problem with a one to two second dropout after 180 seconds of playing sound. This was due to the ESS' crystal running at a slightly different frequency than expected, and a subsequent drift between it and the system clock. This new library makes the situation much better, but doesn't completely eradicate the problem. Dropout has been pushed out to 3 hours of playback. The only change was the adjustment of the expected frequeny of the ESS crystal. This library runs on Tru64 Unix 4.0F and later. Libsoftjpeg.so is a replacement library for playing .mpeg and .avi files. The 5.0a version of Tru64 Unix removed support for some old thread interfaces, which libsoftjpeg.so had a reference to, but never actually used. Unfortunately, this was discovered after Tru64 Unix released. So, the only change was the removal of a reference to an external symbol. This library runs on Tru64 Unix 4.0F and later. ************************************************** MME300_5.0A_msb.mod ************************************************** This is the Microsoft Sound Board driver for 5.0a. The driver that came with the kit is the wrong version, and will crash your system. This driver is built for 5.0a, but is functionally equivalent to previous versions. It should be placed in /usr/opt/MME300/driver_MMEDRVMSB300/OSFBASE5xx/ as msb.mod. A link from /usr/sys/HOSTNAME, where HOSTNAME is your computer's name, should exist already, but make sure it does. You will need to do a doconfig, and move your new vmunix to your root directory. Make sure to back up old msb.mod and vmunix.
