2 How to Run KAP

This chapter describes the commands necessary to execute KAP C on Compaq OpenVMS Alpha systems.

KAP C can be run in either of two modes:

The recommended mode is to invoke KAP with the kcc command. The kcc command accepts C source as input, calls KAP to preprocess and optimize that input, calls the C compiler and the linker, and passes all of the compiler qualifiers to the C compiler and all of the linker qualifiers to the linker.
KAP can also act as a standalone preprocessor with the kapc command that does not call the compiler or the linker.
