8.3.2 Real and Complex Editing

Editing performed on data with a real data type is controlled by the F, E, D, and G field descriptors.


Note
When attempting to parse textual input, you should not use F, E, D, or G format descriptors. These descriptors accept some forms that are purely textual as valid numeric input values. For example, the input values D, E, E1, +, -, and . are all treated as 0.0.
