SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP3592 PART NUMBER: 276029-005 FILE NAME: N/A TITLE: Drive Array Advanced Diagnostics (DAAD) VERSION: 1.42 Rev B LANGUAGE: US English CATEGORY: Diagnostics/Setup PRODUCTS AFFECTED: All Compaq products that contain a SMART SCSI Array Controller using Fast-SCSI-2 drives OPERATING SYSTEM: N/A SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: N/A EFFECTIVE DATE: 04 September 1997 ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes SOFTPAQ UTILITY VERSION: 2.x SUPERSEDES: SP3438 DESCRIPTION: Creates the Drive Array Advanced Diagnostics utility diskette. The DAAD is a DOS-based tool for Compaq products with a SMART SCSI Array Controller using Fast-SCSI-2 drives. The two main functions of DAAD are to collect all possible information about the array controllers in the system and generate a list of detected problems. This data can then be saved to a file for analysis. In most cases, DAAD will provide enough information to initiate problem resolution immediately. Enhancements: - Changed the Inspect Menu's Logical Drive Status to only display the Spare to Replaced Map when there's at least one Active Spare Drive. - Enhanced the terminology displayed in the following field. "Drive Status: Interim recovery (regenerating)" "Drive Status: Recovering (rebuilding)" - Added reporting of Sense Posted-Write Cache Status bits 5-9 - Added to the Error Report a check for a possible data corruption condition on SMART-2/E and SMART-2/P controllers with a 16M cache. This condition may occur when a 16M cache board is attached to a SMART-2 controller containing a firmware revision less than or equal to 1.36. - Moved "Not available" text to make screen easier to read. This can be found in the Physical Drive Data selection on the Inspect Menu. - Added the detection of invalid logical drive configurations occurring on SMART-2/E and SMART-2/P controllers using firmware revisions <= 1.90. This can happen when a single volume (made up of bus 1 id 0 and bus 2 id 0) is changed so that the drive on bus 1 is removed and the drive on bus 2 is moved to bus 1 id 0. - Added reporting of unused logical drives, but only when subsequent logical drives exist. - Added the display of drive array controller names for each slot in the EISA ID section of report.txt. Fixes: - Fixed Posted Write error message. - Fixed invalid S.M.A.R.T. errors being reported on SMART-2/E and SMART-2/P controllers that were using firmware revisions <= 1.48. - Fixed Inspect Menu & Advanced Menu so that all menu selections are disabled when a controller is no longer physically present but is still configured in NVRAM. - Fixed SMART-2/E being incorrectly displayed as SMART-2/P on System View screen and Physical Drive Info screen. This happens when a fully configured SMART-2/E is physically removed from the system without reconfiguration. - Fixed non-sequential logical drives being displayed incorrectly. This happens when logical drives are initially configured in sequence (e.g. 1,2,3,4,5,6) and then one or more logical drives are removed (e.g. 2,4,6). - Fixed the drive array lettering (e.g. A,B,C) to always be sequential. Previously, drive array letters could be non-sequential (e.g. A,C) if any arrays were removed after initial configuration. HOW TO USE: 1. Obtain a formatted 1.44 MB diskette. 2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above. 3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette. 4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2. 5. The DAAD diskette is self-booting. Place the diskette into your drive A: diskette drive and power cycle your system to start the DAAD utility. Copyright 1997, Compaq Computer Corporation. All rights reserved.
