TITLE: HP iPAQ Pocket PC h5500 Series Firmware Update for ROM Version 1.10 VERSION: 1.10 DESCRIPTION: This package contains an "execute in place" (XIP) .cab file that replaces the "Miscellaneous OEM" region of the ROM image for the listed handheld model. This is a permanent update to the flash ROM. IMPORTANT: This XIP update is designed to replace the Miscellaneous OEM region of the ROM image. It is important to read and understand the information in the Readme.txt file included with this update BEFORE installing this package. This XIP update is for English and German languages only. ROM update version 1.10 for all other languages already contains these fixes. PURPOSE: Recommended SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP28220 SUPERSEDES: None EFFECTIVE DATE: August 23, 2004 CATEGORY: BIOS SSM SUPPORTED: No PRODUCT TYPE(S): Handhelds PRODUCT MODEL(S): HP iPAQ Pocket PC h5500 Series OPERATING SYSTEM(S): Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 LANGUAGE(S): US English FIXES: - Fixes an issue where the Dual-Slot PC Card Expansion Pack does not initialize after a soft reset when two PCMCIA cards are installed. - Fixes the following issues with the SDIO Driver: - Fixes issue where some SDIO cards were not recognized after Suspend/Resume or soft reset. - Fixes issue where the handheld did not enter Suspend mode if select SDIO cards were present. - Fixes issue where some SDIO cards continued to draw power while in Suspend mode. PREREQUISITES: - Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7 or later. - SoftPaq SP27674 must be installed on the handheld before this SoftPaq can be installed. HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive. 2. Establish an Activesync connection between the iPAQ Pocket PC and host PC using either a USB or Serial connection. 3. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. INSTALLATION NOTES: 1. If the Regional Settings are changed to any language other than the default language of the handheld, the Firmware update will not complete and the following error message will be generated: "This update is language specific. Please visit the HP website to verify that you have downloaded the correct update." 2. IMPORTANT: Please observe the following restrictions: - Do not enable the handheld password feature during the update process. - Do not attempt to Power Off or restart the handheld while the update is in progress. - Do not enable the “Show information when device is turned on” feature during the update process. To disable this feature, click “Owner” on the Today screen and uncheck the box at the bottom of the page, then click the Notes tab at the bottom of the page and uncheck “Show information when device is turned on,” which is located at the bottom of the page. - After applying a firmware (ROM) update, do not attempt to restore a backup that was made before the ROM update was installed. 3. IMPORTANT: Disable the Standby and Hibernation modes on the host PC. If Standby or Hibernation mode is activated during the upgrade process, a critical error may occur. 4. IMPORTANT: Plan enough time to complete the update process. The total time to perform the firmware update is estimated to be as follows: - For USB connection - 10 minutes - For Serial connection - 20 minutes 5. IMPORTANT: Do not interact with the handheld or remove it from AC power or from the cradle/cable once the hourglass appears on the handheld and the actual firmware update has started. 6. If an error message is displayed during the update process, follow any available instructions to correct the condition and start the update again. 7. The update process can be performed while connected to a host PC either as a Guest or with an established partnership. NOTE: This XIP firmware update does not change the ROM version. To confirm that the XIP firmware update was successful, check for a date of 6/22/04 on the mxip_MISC.ver file by pressing Start, Programs, File Explorer, and Windows directory. The mxip_MISC.ver file can only be view with the "View All Files" option selected. To set the "View All Files" option, tab and hold on the blank area at the bottom of the File Explorer window.
