SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP2877 PART NUMBER: N/A FILE NAME: REPAIR.BAT TITLE: Create Windows NT 3.51 Repair Disk VERSION: N/A LANGUAGE: English CATEGORY: Software Solutions/Servers PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Compaq ProLiant and ProSignia servers OPERATING SYSTEM: Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: SmartStart assisted installation of Windows NT 3.51 EFFECTIVE DATE: 5 March 1997 ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes SUPERSEDES: N/A DESCRIPTION: Versions of SmartStart prior to 3.2x created an Emergency Repair Diskette automatically at the end of a fully assisted installation of Windows NT 3.51. SmartStart Versions 3.20A and 3.21 do not create a Repair Diskette automatically when used for this same type of installation. The Repair Disk Utility (RDISK) is used instead. When using SmartStart 3.20A or 3.21, the RDISK Utility may fail when the user attempts to run it manually after the installation. After it formats the diskette, RDISK may fail with the following error message: "Repair disk utility could not copy all files to the emergency disk. One or more files were not found." The utility will fail if any of the following configuration files are missing from the \%systemroot%\repair subdirectory: Autoexec.nt Config.nt Software._ System._ Default._ Sam._ Security._ The files likely to be missing are the Default, Sam, and Security files. These files can be recreated by running RDISK with the /s parameter. The REPAIR.BAT batch file backs up all of the files in the \%systemroot%\repair subdirectory (usually \winnt35\repair) to a temporary directory location, and then executes the Repair Disk Utility as follows: RDISK /s HOW TO USE: 1.
