Receiving Alerts

Receiving Alerts Overview

When an alert is sent to you, a separate Alert Message pane opens on your desktop. The alert also appears on the Alerts tab in your News Channels window, if you have subscribed to the Alerts channel. Alert messages remain in the Alerts tab for the duration of your current session only. When you exit Instant Messenger, all messages in your Alert tab are removed.

The Alert Message pane title bar indicates the subject of the alert, by whom it was sent, and the date and time it was sent.

You can respond to the alert by starting a chat session with the alert’s sender. You can also forward the alert to others.

Alert Received Window

The following menu and button options are displayed in the Alert Received window:

To Mark an Alert as Read

Click anywhere in the Alert Message pane to notify the sender that the alert has been “Read.”

To Chat with the Sender of an Alert

  1. In the Alert Message pane, select “Chat with sender” from the Tools menu.
  2. A Chat window appears with the sender as a member.

  3. Begin sending instant messages.

To Forward an Alert to Another User

  1. In the Alert Message pane, select “Forward message” from the Tools menu.
  2. The Add Recipients window appears.

  3. Search for and add the contacts who should receive the forwarded message.

  5. After creating your Recipient List, click OK.
  6. The Add Recipients window is closed and the alert is forwarded to the recipients.
