Removing Storage Arrays (Trays)
To prepare for this service action, perform the following:
Enter a description of the service action (removing a tray).
Select the estimated amount of time of the service action from the pull-down.
Select the Reserve button.
a) Other users will be alerted that this service action is in progress when they login.
Removing Power to the Tray(s)
Note: If a controller tray is being removed start with step 1. If an expansion tray is being removed start with step 2, this will be disruptive to all connected trays.
From the rear, press the power switches on the power supplies to the Off positions on the controller tray.
From the rear, press the power switches on the power supplies to the Off positions on the expansion tray to be removed, first. Then for all of the other connected trays press the power switches on the power supplies to the Off position.
To Remove a Storage Tray
Remove the power cables from each power supply in the tray to be removed.
If a controller tray is being removed, remove the host interface cables from the controller cards. If an expansion tray is being removed, remove the expansion tray cables from the I/O modules.
From the rear, remove the screws that secure the tray to the rails in the cabinet.
From the front of the cabinet, remove the end caps from each side of the tray.
Remove the four screws that secure the tray to the cabinet frame.
Slide the tray out of the cabinet using two people. Use care the tray is heavy.
Install the appropriate number of filler panels for the removed tray.
Recabling the Remaining Tray(s)
If the only expansion tray was removed, then only the expansion tray cables will need to be removed.
If a controller tray (no expansion trays) was removed, then only the host cables will need to be removed.
If expansion tray(s) remain connect one copper FC cable from the controller "B" expansion port of the controller module, to the IOM "B" port 2 of the last expansion module.
If necessary, use the following two examples to help install the copper FC expansion cables.
Locate the controller "A" and controller "B" expansion ports at the rear of the controller module.
a) Locate the FC-AL ports (IN and OUT) at the rear of the expansion module.
Connect one copper FC cable from the controller "A" expansion port of controller module 0, to the IOM "A" port 1 of expansion module 1.
a) Connect one copper FC cable from the controller "B" expansion port of controller module 0, to the IOM "B" port 2 of expansion module 1.
Locate the controller "A" and controller "B" expansion ports at the rear of the controller module.
a) Locate the FC-AL ports (IN and OUT) at the rear of the expansion modules.
Connect one copper FC cable from the controller "A" expansion port of controller module 0, to the IOM "A" port 1 of expansion module 1.
a) Connect one copper FC cable from the IOM "A" expansion port 2 of expansion module 1, to the IOM "A" port 1 of expansion module 2.
b) Connect one copper FC cable from the IOM "A" expansion port 2 of expansion module 2, to the IOM "A" port 1 of expansion module 3.
c) Connect one copper FC cable from the controller "B" expansion port of controller module 0, to the IOM "B" port 2 of expansion module 3.
d) Connect one copper FC cable from the IOM "B" port 2 of expansion module 1, to the IOM "B" port 1 of expansion module 2.
e) Connect one copper FC cable from the IOM "B" port 2 of expansion module 2, to the IOM "B" port 1 of expansion module 3.
Restoring Power to the Remaining Tray(s)
Note: If a controller tray was removed proceed to the Updating the Inventory section. If an expansion tray was removed start with step 1 below.
For the remaining trays press the power switches on the power supplies to the On positions starting with the expansion trays first and then the controller tray last.
It will take several minutes for all of the trays to become completely ready. The trays will be ready when only the Green LEDs are on solid.
Updating the Inventory
Note: If a controller tray was removed then it will need to be removed from the inventory. Only step one will need to be completed. If an expansion tray (with IOMs) was removed the inventory will need to be updated. Start with step two.
The removed controller tray will need to be removed from the inventory.
a) Remove the tray from the Inventory.
b) At the Devices window, select the name of the tray that was removed from the "Discover" column.
c) Select the "Remove" button.
The Agent will need to be run to update the inventory.
b) At the Agent Summary window, select the box under the Add Agent column for the appropriate host that the remaining trays are attached to.
c) Select the "Run Agent" button to execute the Agent.
After the Agent has executed, the Device Details will need to be checked to confirm the State is "Enabled" and the Status is "OK" for all of the FRUs.
b) At the Devices window, select the appropriate name of the controller module from under the Name column.
c) At the Device Details window, select the FRUs "jump to" at the left top of the screen or scroll down to the FRUs section.
d) From the left column under FRUs, select each FRU type to verify that the State is "Enabled" and the Status is "OK".
Disable the reserve CSM/CEM function.
a) Select the Release button.
