Remove and Replace Storage Service Processor
Note: SP0 is used only as an example in this procedure.
Note: A service processor recovery CD is required to complete this procedure.
Before starting this service action enable the reserve cabinet(s) function. This may not be possible depending on the state of the service processor.
a)
b) Enter a description of the service action (i.e. replacing USB relay panel).
c) Select the estimated amount of time of the service action from the pull-down.
d) Select the Reserve Cabinet(s) button.
e) Other users will be alerted that this service action is in progress when they log in.
f) Close the pop-up screen.
Observe all
a) Close the pop-up screen.
Establish a serial connection to the NTC.
a) tip -9600 /dev/ttya or /dev/ttyb
b) login: rss
c) password: sun1rss
At the NTC prompt execute the following command and login to the service processor.
a) ntc: connect local port_2
Local protocol emulation 1.0 - Local Switch: <^[>
b) Hit Return
The following is the expected output.
This system is for the use of authorized users only. If this message was not received proceed to step 9.
You should now be at the sp0 console login prompt to the service processor.
a) sp0 console login: root
b) password: !root (possibly account specific)
If a successful login has been completed, run the fbr command with the -fb option to ensure that the flash disk contains the latest information from the service processor.
a) sp0# /opt/SUNWsefbru/bin/fbr -b
b) A successful completion should be: "Backup Command Successful" or "Restore Command Successful".
Issue a shutdown command to the service processor.
a) sp0# shutdown -y
From the rear of the cabinet, unscrew the three captive fastners on the right side of the service processor and I/O panel and open the panel.
Power off the service processor.
Disconnect the power cable.
Disconnect all cables from the service processor.
a) Make sure that all of the cables are labeled.
Remove the USB flash disk.
From the front of the cabinet remove the two trim strips holding the service processor to the cabinet.
Remove the service processor by sliding it out the front of the cabinet.
Remove the 12 screws (6 on each side) that hold the service processor to the mounting brackets.
Attach the mounting brackets to the new service processor.
Insert the new service processor by sliding it back into the front of the cabinet.
Replace the two screws with the trim strips to secure the service processor to the the cabinet.
Reconnect all cables.
Insert the power cable.
Power on the service processor.
Close the service processor and I/O panel and tighten the three captive screws.
Wait for the boot process to complete and the service processor login prompt to appear.
Reloading the Service Processor Image
From the front of the cabinet insert the recovery CD into the service processor CD-ROM drive tray and close the tray.
From the login prompt issue the following command to get to the lom> prompt.
a) login: #.
Type the following from the lom prompt.
a) lom> break.
Type the following from the ok prompt.
a) ok> boot cdrom - install
The system displays the following message:
Resetting ..
LOM event: +2h11m57s host reset
Sun Fire V100 (UltraSPARC-IIe 548MHz), No Keyboard
OpenBoot 4.0, 1024 MB memory installed, Serial #55465444.
Ethernet address 0:3:ba:4e:55:e4, Host ID: 834e55e4.
The USB flash disk must have been removed before starting this restore.
If it was not, remove it now and restart the recovery.
Are you sure you want to do this? [y,n,?] y
The service processor will now boot. This will take several minutes, be patient.
After the service processor boots, the system will display the following message:
Do you want to restore local configuration information? [y,n,?] y
Answering "yes" will start the local configuration restore process. Again, this will tak several minutes, be patient.
DO NOT INSERT THE USB FLASH DRIVE NOW (This is done in the next step.)
The next restore process prompt will display the following:
To restore local information the USB flash disk must be connected.
Connect the USB device, then press y to continue. [y,?] y
The restore process will continue and the service processor will reboot for the final time. Again, this will take several minutes, be patient.
After the reboot has been completed, login at the sp console prompt.
a) sp0 console login: root
b) Password: !root (possibly account specific)
From the sp prompt execute the following command to verify the restored version level.
a) sp0# iam

Logout of the service processor.
a) sp0# logout
Disconnect from the service processor console connection using the control+] (right bracket) sequence.
a) ^]
Logout of the NTC.
a) ntc0: logout
Disconnect from the tip session.
a) ntc0: ~. (may require a carriage return first)
Remove the service processor recovery CD from the CD-ROM drive.
Disable the reserve cabinet(s) function.
a)
b) Select the Release Cabinet(s) button.
c) Close the pop-up screen.
