Remove and Replace Management Interface Card (MIC)
Note: If these procedures have been linked from an Event Grid/Event Advisor Alarm skip step 3.
Before starting this service action enable the reserve cabinet(s) function.
a)
b) Enter a description of the service action (i.e. replacing MIC card).
c) Select the estimated amount of time of the service action from the pull-down.
d) Select the Reserve Cabinet(s) button.
e) Other users will be alerted that this service action is in progress when they log in.
f) Close the pop-up screen.
Observe all
a) Close the pop-up screen.
If the correct MIC card has been selected proceed to step 4 or return to the previous screen to select another MIC card.
From the rear of the cabinet unscrew the three captive fasteners on the right side of the service processor and I/O panel and swing the panel open.
Check the LEDs to determine if the card is in a faulted state.
a) If the Ready LED (Green) is blinking and the Power LED (Green) is On solid, the card is booting.
b) If the Ready LED (Green) is On solid and the Power LED (Green) is On solid, the card is in normal operation.
c) If the Link (10/100 Ethernet) LED (Green) is on, then the link is connected.
d) If the Act 1 LED (Green) is on, the MICPC card is inserted.
e) If the card is NOT in state A, B, C or D it is in a faulted state.
Verify that the MIC card is ready to remove:
a) The Show Chassis screen State should be "fault" or "powered off".
b) If the MIC card is NOT "fault" or "powered off" call your Sun Service provider to assist with this service action.
c) Close the pop-up screen.
If the MIC card is in a "fault" or "powered off" state remove the Ethernet and serial port cables.
Loosen the MIC card's captive screws, one on each side of the face plate. A Phillips screw driver may be required to loosen the screw.

Pull the lock and ejector handles outward completely to release the card from the mid-plane chassis.
Slide the card out of its slot until it is completely removed from the chassis.
To maintain proper cooling do not leave the card slot empty for an extended length of time.
Remove the PCMIC card from the removed MIC card. The PCMIC will be used in the new MIC card.
Place the removed MIC card in an antistatic bag.
Insert the new MIC card making sure that the lock and ejector handles are completely open and slide the card into the slot until it connects with the chassis mid-plane. Alignment pins located on the edge of the card should be aligned with the guide holes in the chassis. Use care not to bend any pins.
Push in the lock and ejector handles to secure the MIC card in place. The card face plate should be flush with the adjoining cards in the chassis.
Secure the card by tightening the captive screws on the card face plate.
The Ready LED (Green) and Power LED (Green) should now be On.
Insert the PCMIC card into slot number one (lower slot) of the new MIC card.
The Act LED (Green) to the left of the ejection button should now be On.
Insert the Ethernet and serial port cables.
Close the service processor and I/O panel and tighten the three captive fasteners.
The MIC card failover flag will need to be cleared:
a) From the Select Device options, select the corresponding DSP link.
b) From the Select Command pull-down box select the "redund -c" command.
c) Select the Run Command button.
d) After the command has been run successfully the message will indicate that the "redund: takeover flag has been cleared".
e) Close the pop-up screen.
Verify that the MIC card is "Normal" or "Standing By":
a) The Show Chassis screen State should be "Normal" or "Standing By".
b) Close the pop-up screen.
A new inventory will need to be created for the new MIC card:
a) From the Inventory Maintenance screen, select the Generate New Inventory button at the bottom of the screen.
b) After the Generate New Inventory has completed, select the Save New Inventory button at the bottom of the screen.
c) Close the pop-up screen.
The revision level of the new card must be checked to confirm
compatibility:
a) Select the Update Revisions link from the Revision Maintenance Menu.
b) Select the Create New Patch Report button from the bottom of the page.
c) Select and apply any patches as required.
d) Close the pop-up screen.
Disable the reserve the cabinet(s) function.

b) Select the Release Cabinet(s) button.
c) Close the pop-up screen.
