Sun ONE Instant Messenger Platform Requirements for Mac OS XThe following are required to run Sun ONE Instant Messenger on Mac OS:
Launching Sun ONE Instant Messenger OverviewSun ONE Instant Messenger on Mac OS is launched using Java Web Start, which is an application launcher for Java 2 applets. Once Sun ONE Instant Messenger is launched, your browser can be closed or used to locate other URLs without affecting the Sun ONE Instant Messenger session.
To launch Sun ONE Instant Messenger:
- Enter the URL provided by your system administrator in your browser or click “Start Messenger with Java Web Start” button. This will cause Java Web Start to download the Sun ONE Instant Messenger applet.
- A sign-on window is displayed. Enter your login name and password in the sign-on window and click ok.
- After the login name and password is authenticated, the main Sun ONE Instant Messenger window is displayed.
Mac OS make Java and Java Web Start available by default, enabling you to effortlessly get started with Sun ONE Instant Messaging. However, if you encounter any problem refer to the trouble shooting section for help.

By default, Java Web Start attempts to connect to the Internet directly. If your network environment uses proxies, Java Web Start may need to be configured to use the HTTP proxy as well. This can be done from the Preferences panel of the Java Web Start Application Manager.
The Java Web Start Application Manager can be started from the Programs section of the Start Menu.
