Advanced Search of Users and Groups
Use this dialog to perform a more focused search for users and groups.
Start searching from. This line displays the hostname, port, and base entry from which the server will begin searching. The search will look in this entry and all entries below it. Note that the search operation will not follow any referrals from this base entry or within its subtree.
To search a different part of your directory, close this dialog and select a different entry in the directory tree, for example to search from the root of a different suffix.
Search (field). Specify the target of your search. Possible choices are Users, Groups, or Users and Groups.
where. Choose an attribute and an operator, then enter a search term in the text field. The following attributes are available:
cn - The user or group's full name (common name).
sn - The last name (surname) of a user.
givenname - The first name (given name) of a user.
objectclass - An object class appearing in the user or group entry.
o - An organization defined in the user or group entry (not in the DN).

mail - The e-mail address of a user.
telephonenumber - The telephone number of a user.
The search operator determines when an entry is part of the results:
contains - The search term appears anywhere in the value of the chosen attribute.
equals - The search term matches the chosen attribute's value exactly.
does not equal - The search term does not match the value of the chosen attribute.
More. Click to add an additional attribute, operator, and search term.
Fewer. Click to remove the bottom-most attribute, operator, and search term.
Search (button). Click this button to begin searching. Pressing Return or Enter in this dialog will also begin the search.
Filter. Click this button to perform a search with a specific filter string. By specifying a filter string, you can locate any entry beneath the base entry of the search.
The table below the search criteria displays the results of the search. The first column shows the name of the entry found, either its common name (cn) if the entry has one, or the first naming attribute in the entry's DN. The remaining columns show the user ID, email and phone number of user entries in the search results.
Select a row of the table to manage the corresponding entry. The DN of the selected entry is displayed beneath the table. Then click on one of the following buttons. Alternatively, you can perform actions on table entries by right-clicking on the corresponding row and selecting an item from the pop-up menu.
Edit. Click this button to open the custom editor for the selected entry in the table. For example, you can use this dialog to edit the members of a group. If you wish to directly edit the attributes and values of the entry, right-click on the table row and select Edit with Generic Editor from the pop-up menu.
Delete. Select an entry in the table and click this button to remove it from the directory. You will be asked for confirmation before the entry is permanently deleted.
