Before You Register This Plug-In

To allow the Plug-In Registration Wizard to successfully validate the HiCommand Server name, and to allow for successful scanning, you may have to exclude the HiCommand Server's name from the HTTP Internet Proxy Servers on the computer on which you are installing the plug-in. This may be required because some proxy server configurations do not allow the HiCommand Server's default IP port communications to pass through.

If you need to exclude the HiCommand Server's name from the HTTP Internet Proxy Servers, you receive a warning from the Plug-In Registration Wizard. One of the following error messages is displayed:

If you receive one of these error messages, go to the Proxy Settings window in your browser, and enter the HiCommand Server's name or IP address in the Exceptions field.

Using the Plug-In Registration Wizard

Take the following steps to register one or more 9900 Series RAID Arrays with the Capacity Reporter Server:

  1. Enter the following information in the Registration Utility dialog box:
    1. SRM Server Name - Name of the Capacity Reporter Server that will store information collected by the proxy agent.

    2. SRM Proxy Agent Name - Name of the Capacity Reporter Agent computer on which the plug-in is installed.

    3. HiCommand Server - Name of the Hitachi Data Systems HiCommand™ Server that communicates with the 9900 Series RAID Array (for example, hicommandserver.engineering.xyzcompany.com or 12.23.34.45).

    4. HiCommand Port - Port number of the Hitachi Data Systems HiCommand™ Server that communicates with the 9900 Series RAID Array (default = 2001).

    5. HiCommand Server User Name - A valid user name to access the HiCommand Server.

    6. HiCommand Server Password - The password for the HiCommand Server User Name you entered.
  2. Click the Refresh HiCommand List button to display a list of RAID Arrays from which you can collect information.

    1. Select the RAID Arrays from which you want to collect information.

    2. Click the Register button. You can enter a user-friendly name for the RAID Array in the Display Name popup window.

Log information displays at the bottom of the registration window.

If you successfully registered the 9900 Series RAID Array, it is located in the group named RAID Group.

Note: When you successfully register a 9900 Series RAID Array and perform a successful scan, Capacity Reporter passes information to the HiCommand Server to allow the HiCommand Server to Link & Launch Capacity Reporter from that HiCommand Server. If you no longer want to manage that 9900 Series RAID Array, you must use the Unregister a managed object function of the plug-in to remove the link to the Capacity Reporter software from the HiCommand Server GUI.

Editing Scan Proxy Information

Using Capacity Reporter, you can edit the proxy system settings for a registered RAID subsystem. This consists of changing the Capacity Reporter Agent computer to use computer scans.

To edit scan proxy information:

  1. Launch the software.

  2. Click the Options tab, and then click the Scans icon.

  3. In the navigation pane, click Select Proxy. The Select Proxy page is displayed.

  4. Next to the RAID option, click Modify. The Modify Scan Settings for RAID page is displayed.

  5. In the Select a managed object list box, select the RAID subsystem you want to modify and make the necessary changes.

You can change the following setting:

Computer Scan Agent — Enter the name of a managed Capacity Reporter Agent computer that has the correct plug-in installed on it. If you select a Capacity Reporter 5.0.1 Agent computer that does not have the correct plug-in installed, all computer scans for the selected RAID subsystem fail.

Unregistering a Managed Object

NOTES:

When you register a 9900 Series RAID Array, Capacity Reporter passes information to the HiCommand Server so that the HiCommand Server can launch Capacity Reporter for that RAID array. If you no longer want to manage that 9900 Series RAID Array, you must use the "Unregister a managed object" function of the plug-in to remove the HiCommand Server GUI link to Capacity Reporter.

To unregister a managed object so that it becomes unmanaged by the Capacity Reporter Server:

  1. Launch the Plug-In Registration Wizard.

  2. Enter the SRM Server Name, SRM Proxy Agent, and HiCommand Server information in the Registration Utility window.

  3. Click the Refresh Installed Agents button to display a list of RAID Arrays from which the Capacity Reporter software is currently collecting information.

  4. Select the RAID Arrays that you want to unregister.

  5. Click the Unregister button. Log information displays at the bottom of the registration window.

Troubleshooting

Report page for the 9900 Series RAID Array Displays Slowly
If reports for the 9900 Series RAID Array take 40 seconds or longer to display, ensure that the SQL Server Agent service is running. (In order for Capacity Reporter maintenance tasks to run, the SQL Server Agent service must be running.) You can start the SQL Server Agent service using either the Control Panel or the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
