Preferences

You may set Preferences on two levels: for the Summary Screen (SS) and for each
Sun MTP system, each with its own version of the PreferencesDialog. The SS and
all Overview Screens (OS) have an option in the Utilities PullDownMenu, called
"Preferences", that invokes a PreferencesDialog. Preferences allow you to tailor
Sun MTPScan behavior to your liking. You may store Preference values so that each
time you invoke Sun MTPScan, you get the same behavior. Sun MTPScan stores all
Preferences in fixed locations. The files are $UNIKIX/kixscan.prefs for the SS
and $KIXSYS/kixscan.prefs for each Sun MTP system. Because these files are fixed,
two or more people may overwrite each other's Preference Files. An administrator
should prevent this from occurring with appropriate permissions on these files.

KxHistogram Control:
Each KxHistogram has three Preferences that control display behavior. The first
two Preferences control the minimum and maximum boundaries for a KxHistogram
displayed on a Screen. To set the range available for a KxHistogram boundary in
the PreferencesDialog, refer to the Help on the Scale widget. The reason for
having these Preferences is that different Sun MTP systems operate differently:
some may have very high I/O activity, and another may have a very high
transaction execution rate. Changing a KxHistogram's display boundaries makes
the visual representation of the value more meaningful.

The third Preference specifies that the KxHistogram automatically adjust its
boundaries to accommodate breaching values. If the KxHistogram is not set to
auto-config, a breaching value pegs the KxHistogram and the KxLabel for the
breached boundary changes color to yellow (inverse for monochrome).

Update Interval:
The Update Interval controls how often Sun MTPScan updates the values on a Screen.
In the case of the SS, the Update Interval affects only that Screen. For
a Sun MTP system, the Update Interval affects all Screens for a particular Sun MTP
system (emanating from the same OS). The update frequency controls how much
overhead Sun MTPScan incurs: the smaller the Update Interval, the more Sun MTPScan uses
a machine's processor to collect and display data. Note that you can also lessen
Sun MTPScan's overhead by iconifying or hiding Screens you don't need to look at.

You can also "freeze" data collection for a particular Sun MTP System by setting
the Update Interval to zero. This feature allows you to view a snapshot of an
active Sun MTP system. You continue collecting data by returning the Update
Interval to a non-zero value.

You can change the available range on the Update Interval in the Preferences-
Dialog with a resource in the app-default file. Refer to Help on the Scale
widget for details.

Filename Patterns:
The Filename Pattern Preferences only appear in the SS's PreferencesDialog.
Together, the Directory and Pattern Preferences specify the default filter for
a particular FileSelectionDialog. When you set these Preferences to the
directory and pattern where you are most likely to search for a particular type
of file, you can get to the target file very quickly. In addition, use the Reset
Preference to tell a particular FSD to reset itself each time you request it.
For example, if you want an FSD to always remain in the last directory you were
in, leave the Reset off. On the other hand, if you know you always want to start
looking for files in the same directory, turn the Reset function on.
