Active (TCT)

DESCRIPTION
The "Active" indicator shows the polling activity for a socket-based terminal
handler (TH) process that runs on behalf of a connected device. The polling
activity shows if a device is "alive" or not. Sun MTP polls 3270 and Remote
connections (actually, the TH process) to see if it is still connected to
the Sun MTP system. Sun MTPScan sets this field for an entry with "Type" of 3270 or
Remote.

VALUES
This value is zero if no connection exists. It alternates between the values
1 and 2 as polling transpires.

INTERPRETATION
"Active" is 0 when no polling is happening. While a terminal is connected,
Sun MTP pings the TH client process to see if the process is still alive. Once
Sun MTP finds out that the TH process is alive, "Active" takes a value of 2.
Every subsequent poll interval, Sun MTP pings the TH client. If the TH does not
respond within the next poll interval, Sun MTP decrements the value for "Active".
If after two pings with no response, "Active" remains at 0, and Sun MTP assumes
the terminal has been disconnected. If a subsequent ping receives a response,
Sun MTP sets "Active" back to 2.

CONCLUSIONS
If no response is received from a TH client process within the polling interval
two times in a row (the value of "Active" reaches 0), Sun MTP assumes the device
is no longer connected and frees up the terminal's entry in the Sun MTP Terminal
Control Table (TCT) (unless the entry is preconfigured in the Sun MTP TCT). The
TCT Screen immediately reflects any change in connectivity.
