Environment (DCT Extra)

DESCRIPTION
The "Environment" shows the name (not the value) of a system environment
variable specified for a given Transient Data (TD) queue in the
Extrapartition Destinations section of the Destination Control Table (DCT).

VALUES
By convention, the name of an environment variable is an uppercase character
string of at most 14 characters. The environment variable value specifies a
character string that specifies a file system directory. To view the value
of the "Environment" variable, echo the value at the system prompt where the
Sun MTP system was initiated, as follows:

$ echo $ENVIRONMENT

where ENVIRONMENT is the name displayed in the "Environment" column.

INTERPRETATION
The value of the "Environment" variable specifies the system directory that
contains the file for a queue. The actual name of the queue appears in the
"Filename" column of the DCT Extrapartition Screen. Concatenate the "Filename"
to the end of the value of the "Environment" for the full pathname of the file
that contains the TD queue.

CONCLUSIONS
Since Sun MTP stores the name of the "Environment", not the value, it is very
easy to change the location of a queue's file without having to reconfigure
Sun MTP. To move a queue to a more efficient location, just change the value of
the "Environment" variable before initiating a Sun MTP system. Neither the
"Filename" nor the name of "Environment" (in Sun MTP tables) has to change.

Prior to starting a Sun MTP system, the administrator should verify that all
queue "Environment" variables are set correctly and identify valid queues.
If an "Environment" variable is set incorrectly, unikixmain.log will indicate
the problem with the queue.
