OneNote 2003 runs slow or appears to stop responding (828613)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to work in Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, OneNote 2003 may run slow or appear to stop responding.

Note Other Microsoft Windows programs may also appear to run slow when this problem occurs. If you view the CPU usage on your computer, the CPU usage may approach 100 percent usage. To view the CPU usage on your computer, press CTRL+ALT+DEL and then view the Status bar of Windows Task Manager.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when there is another CPU-intensive program that is running at the same time that OneNote 2003 backup is running.

This problem may also occur if a section has been deleted from OneNote 2003 and the audio note file (*.wma) has not been deleted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, turn off the automatic backup feature in OneNote 2003. To do this, follow these steps:

On the Tools menu, click Options.
In the Options dialog box, click Backup in the Category list.
Click to clear the Automatically back up my notebook at the following time interval check box.
Click OK to close the Options dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
This problem was first corrected in OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1.
