This article was previously published under Q256897

SYMPTOMS

If you try to install Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000 on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may receive the following error message:
Program Error

Photodrw.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.
If you do not click Cancel, the Cancel button changes to an OK button after a short period of time.

If you click OK, Setup seems to finish successfully. However, when you try to start PhotoDraw 2000, you receive the same error message.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if an odd number of True Type Collection fonts are installed on the computer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, rename one True Type collection font:

  1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
  2. In the Search for files or folders named box, type *.ttc.
  3. In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then click Search now.
  4. Right-click one of the files in the list of found files, and then click Rename.
  5. Type filename.old, and then press ENTER, where filename is the name of the font file, which does not include the file name extension.
  6. Close the Search Results dialog box.
  7. Restart Windows.
  8. Reinstall PhotoDraw 2000.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

True Type Collection fonts are sometimes referred to as FE or Far East fonts because they are used to depict characters that are more complex than the characters used in the Roman alphabet. Chinese and Japanese are FE alphabets. English, German and French are non-FE alphabets.
