TITLE: Motif ALPDWEUR01_U4012 Alpha Motif V1.2-4 Euro Sign Support ECO Summary Modification Date: 22-JAN-99 Modification Type: New Kit NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which can be used to install the ECO. Copyright (c) Compaq Computer Corporation 1999. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: DECwindows Motif[R] V1.2-4 OP/SYS: DIGITAL OpenVMS Alpha COMPONENT: Euro Currency Sign Support DECW$XLIBSHR.EXE SOURCE: Compaq Computer Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: ALPDWEUR01_U4012 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: None ECO Kit Approximate Size: 25578 Blocks Kit Applies To: OpenVMS 6.2, 6.2-1H1, 6.2-1H2, 6.2-1H3, 7.1, 7.1-1H1, 7.1-1H2, 7.1-2, 7.2 System Reboot Necessary: Yes Rolling Re-boot Supported: Yes Installation Rating: INSTALL_2 2 - To be installed on all systems running the listed version(s) of OpenVMS and using the following feature(s): Euro currency sign Kit Dependencies: The following remedial kit(s) must be installed BEFORE installation of this kit: None In order to receive all the corrections listed in this kit, the following remedial kits should also be installed: There are no dependent kits. However, you can optionally install kits for Euro-locale support. See below for details. ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for DECwindows Motif V1.2-4 on OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 through V7.2. New Functionality: o This kit provides Euro sign support for OpenVMS DECwindows Motif Version 1.2-4. After installing the kit and performing the setup, you can enter and display the Euro sign on OpenVMS DECwindows Motif Version 1.2-4 running on supported versions of OpenVMS. o Once Euro support is enabled on your system, you can display the Euro sign with any ISO8859-1 bitmap font on your workstation, with no additional setup. DECwindows applications that use standard Latin 1 fonts to display text will automatically display the Euro sign for character 0xA4. The character set part of the XLFD name of these Latin 1 fonts is ISO8859-1. To display the Euro sign in a DECterm window, be sure the following two items are selected in the DECterm General Options dialog box: - UPSS ISO Latin 1 - 8-Bit Multinational Characters o Once Euro support is enabled, you can enter the Euro sign on your workstation with any keyboard attached to your system without any additional setup. If you use an LK4**-** LK-type keyboard with an *LK401* keymap, enter the Euro sign using a LeftCompose + E key sequence; that is, press the E key while holding down the LeftCompose key. If you use a PC-type keyboard, such as LK44*-**, PCXA*-**, or LK97W-**, with a *LK44* keymap, enter the Euro sign using a RightAlt + E key sequence. LK style PC style --------------- ------------- LeftCompose + E RightAlt + E If you use an LK201-** keyboard and keymap, enter the Euro sign using the same key sequence you use for the currency sign. For example: Compose+Space o x or Compose+Space O X Compose+Space x o or Compose+Space X O Compose+Space 0 x or Compose+Space 0 X Compose+Space x 0 or Compose+Space X 0 Note that the RUSSIAN_LK401_BT keymap does not support the LeftCompose + E key sequence. The POLISH_LK401_BT keymap supports Euro input using the LeftCompose + U key sequence. If you have been entering compose characters with LeftCompose key or RightCompose key, you can continue entering the compose characters with RightCompose key after installing the Euro kit. o To display and edit the Euro sign in the DECTPU DECwindows interface, specify the ISO Latin 1 character set as follows: $ EDIT/TPU/INTERFACE=DECWINDOWS/CHARACTER_SET=ISO_LATIN1 Optional Euro-Locale Support: o After Motif Euro support is enabled, a character code 0xA4 is always displayed because the Euro sign and the key sequence to enter the Euro sign is always in effect, regardless of the process's locale and codeset. Euro-locale support by the DEC C Run-Time Library is not necessary for OpenVMS Motif Euro support. However, if you want to run Motif applications in Euro-locale, you must install Euro-locale support, which is included in the following kits: OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.2 VMSI18N072 OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.1 ALPVMSI18N01_071 OpenVMS Alpha Version 6.2 ALPVMSI18N01_062 For customer convenience, kit VMSI18N072 ships on the OpenVMS Version 7.2 kit. Known Issues in the ALPDWEUR01_U4012 Kit: o On Alpha workstations running OpenVMS Version 7.2, the Euro key sequence for PC keyboards (RightAlt + E) does not work because of a problem with mode_switch of the X server. A remedial kit will be issued very soon to solve this problem. o When a Euro sign is pasted or sent to another window application on a different platform (such as UNIX) using Compound Text format, the character may not be recognized as a Euro sign on the other platform. o If a DECwindows Motif language variant kit, such as Japanese or Hebrew, is installed, the Euro sign is not supported. o The Euro sign is not provided in DECwindows scalable fonts. Applications using scalable fonts cannot display the Euro sign. o You can use EDT to enter Euro characters using EDT's special insert function with the character code, but the Euro may not display correctly on the screen while you are using the EDT editor. INSTALLATION NOTES: The images in this kit do not take effect until the system is rebooted. The installation procedure does not enable Euro support functionality. To enable it, perform the following postinstallation setup: o Copy SYS$MANAGER:DECW$PRIVATE_APPS_SETUP.TEMPLATE to SYS$MANAGER:DECW$PRIVATE_APPS_SETUP.COM. In the DECW$PRIVATE_APPS_SETUP.COM file, find the section "Cluster Common or Standalone Workstation Setup" and add the following line in that section: $ @SYS$MANAGER:DECW$EURO_APPS_SETUP.COM o Copy SYS$MANAGER:DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.TEMPLATE to SYS$MANAGER:DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM. In the DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM file, find the section "Cluster Common or Standalone Workstation Setup" and add the following line in that section: $ @SYS$MANAGER:DECW$EURO_SERVER_SETUP.COM Reboot the system after you have successfully completed the steps outlined in the previous two sections. (NOTE: You cannot use DECW$STARTUP to restart the system in this case.) If you have other DECwindows X11 display servers A(Workstations) in an OpenVMS Cluster system, they should also be rebooted to make use of the new images. If it is not possible or convenient to reboot all X11 display servers at this time, a rolling reboot can be performed. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
