OpenVMS ALPMSGF04_062 Alpha V6.2 - V6.2-1H3 SYSMSG ECO Summary
TITLE: OpenVMS ALPMSGF04_062 Alpha V6.2 - V6.2-1H3 SYSMSG ECO Summary

NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.

Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will
be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
can be used to install the ECO.

         ALPCLUSIO01_062

In order to receive all the corrections listed in this
kit, the following remedial kits should also be installed:

         None

ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for SYSMSG on OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 through V6.2-1H3.
This kit addresses the following problems:

Problems Addressed in the ALPMSGF04_062 Kit:

o Demote FILESTRUCT error to a warning for size violation

The following new MOUNT warning message is added:

%MOUNT-W-INCONSIZE, inconsistent number of blocks reported,
some data may not be accessible

This message occurs as a result of the size discrepancy problem
     fixed by kit ALPMOUN05_062.

     Image(s) Affected:

          [SYSMSG]SYSMSG.EXE

Problems Addressed in the ALPMSGF03_062 Kit:

o Installation conflict with OpenVMS Alpha Y2K kit

The ALPMSGF02_062 remedial kit required that the ALPCLUSIO01_062 kit
be installed. If the user tried to install the ALPMSGF02_062 kit on
a system that had both the ALPCLUSIO01_062 and OpenVMS Alpha Y2K
remedial kits installed, the ALPMSGF02_062 kit did not recognize
that the ALPCLUSIO01_062 kit had been installed. This caused the
     ALPMSGF02_062 installation to fail.

There are no new ECO problem corrections in this kit. If you have
installed the ALPMSGF02_062 remedial kit, you do not need to install
     the ALPMSGF03_062 remedial kit.

Problems Addressed in the ALPMSGF02_062 Kit:

o If a system has been upgraded to V6.2 from V6.1, the KITINSTAL.COM
procedure in kits that require the ALPCLUSIO01_062 remedial kit to
be installed first, did not properly verify that the ALPCLUSIO01_062
     remedial kit had been installed.

Problems Addressed in the ALPMSGF01_062 Kit:

o An incompatibility exists between the COBOLRTL024 and ALPCLUSIO01_062
TIMA kits. Each kit contains a new SYSMSG.EXE, but neither of them
includes all of the messages. This SYSMSG.EXE provides all of the
messages needed for these two kits.

An installation incompatibility also exists. The SYSMSG.EXE
provided in the COBOLRTL024 kit has an out of order image
identification. This results in one of the following
     installation problems:

o If the COBOLRTL024 kit is installed prior to ALPCLUSIO01_062
or this MSGF ECO kit, these kits will fail to install properly.
Before installing the ALPCLUSIO01_062 or this MSGF ECO kit,
the SYSMSG.EXE provided by the COBOLRTL024 should be deleted.
An analyze/image command performed on the SYSMSG.EXE image
provided by the COBOLRTL024 kit, will give the following
          information:

            Image Identification Information

              image name: "SYSMSG"
              image file identification: "X-3"
              image file build identification: "X5SC-SSB-1L0B"
              link date/time: 16-AUG-1995 16:36:25.32
              linker identification: "T11-11"

o If the COBOLRTL024 remedial kit is installed after the
ALPCLUSIO01_062 or this MSGF ECO kit, the SYSMSG.EXE
image provided by COBOLRTL024 will not contain a new
message for DISMOUNT. After installing COBOLRTL024,
the new SYSMSG.EXE should be deleted, leaving the
SYSMSG.EXE provided by the ALPCLUSIO01_062 or this
          MSGF ECO kit in place.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

The images in this kit will not take effect until the system is
rebooted. If there are other nodes in the VMScluster, they must
also be rebooted in order to make use of the new image(s).

If it is not possible or convenient to reboot the entire cluster at
this time, a rolling re-boot may be performed.
