OpenVMS VAXMANA02_062 VAX V6.2 SYSMAN ECO Summary

TITLE: OpenVMS VAXMANA02_062 VAX V6.2 SYSMAN ECO Summary NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which can be used to install the ECO. Copyright (c) Compaq Computer Corporation 1999. All rights reserved. Modification Date: 16-JUN-99 Modification Type: Updated Kit Supersedes VAXMANA04_070 (V6.2 Only) PRODUCT: OpenVMS VAX COMPONENT: SYSMAN.EXE SMISERVER.EXE SMI$OBJSHR.EXE SMI$SHR.EXE SOURCE: Compaq Computer Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: VAXMANA02_062 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: VAXMANA04_070 (V6.2 Only) VAXMANA03_070 (V6.2 Only) VAXMANA01_070 (V6.2 Only) VAXMANA01_062 ECO Kit Approximate Size: 828 Blocks Kit Applies To: OpenVMS VAX V6.2 System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: Yes Rolling Re-boot Supported: Yes Installation Rating: INSTALL_3 - To be installed on all systems running the listed versions of OpenVMS which are experiencing the problems described. Kit Dependencies: The following remedial kit(s) must be installed BEFORE installation of this kit: VAXCLUSIO01_062 In order to receive all the corrections listed in this kit, the following remedial kits should also be installed: None ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for SYSMAN/SMISERVER on OpenVMS VAX V6.2. This kit addresses the following problems: Problems Addressed in the VAXMANA02_062 Kit: o A regression exists in the VAXMANA04_070 kit relative to the VAXCLUSIO01_062 kit. The VAXMANA04_070 kit has images in common with CLUSIO (i.e. SMI$OBJSHR.EXE, SMISERVER.EXE, and SYSMAN.EXE), but the images in CLUSIO are dated later. CLUSIO documentation says to install the VAXMANA04_070 kit first (actually the VAXMANA03_070 kit, but VAXMANA04_070 supersedes it). Hence, the user receives a regression error message. This kit resolves this regression by using the latest versions of the three images, SMI$OBJSHR.EXE, SMISERVER.EXE, and SYSMAN.EXE, that were built. These three images were in common with CLUSIO. Note that no new fixes were done for these three images. o Make the SYSMAN security profile consistent clusterwide. The SYSMAN security profile is supposed to be identical on all nodes in a cluster that use the same security environment. However, SYSMAN could use the authorize privileges from the UAF, instead of the locally set privileges on some nodes. For example, for a cluster named CLUSTER, node NODE1 should have same privilege settings as another node in the cluster, NODE2. SYSMAN> set env/clus %SYSMAN-I-ENV, current command environment: Clusterwide on local cluster Username SYSTEM (*** will be used on non-local nodes) SYSMAN> show profile %SYSMAN-I-DEFDIR, default directory on node NODE2 -- SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGR] %SYSMAN-I-DEFPRIV, process privileges on node NODE2 -- TMPMBX OPER NETMBX %SYSMAN-I-DEFDIR, default directory on node NODE1 -- SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGR] %SYSMAN-I-DEFPRIV, process privileges on node NODE1 -- CMKRNL CMEXEC CMEXEC SYSNAM GRPNAM ALLSPOOL IMPERSONATE DIAGNOSE LOG_IO GROUP ACNT PRMCEB PRMMBX PSWAPM ALTPRI SETPRV TMPMBX WORLD MOUNT OPER EXQUOTA NETMBX VOLPRO PHY_IO BUGCHK PRMGBL SYSGBL PFNMAP SHMEM SYSPRV BYPASS SYSLCK SHARE UPGRADE DOWNGRADE GRPPRV READALL IMPORT AUDIT SECURITY Images(s) Affected: 1. [SYSLIB]SMI$SHR.EXE Problems Addressed in the VAXMANA04_070 Kit for OpenVMS VAX V6.2: o Incorrect problem statement noted in the VAXMANA03_070 kit (Correct SYSMAN DISKQUOTA ENABLE|DISABLE command behavior.) This problem has not been fixed. This kit, VAXMANA04_070 removes this problem statement from the documentation. This kit does not contain any new fixes. Problems Addressed in the VAXMANA03_070 Kit for OpenVMS VAX V6.2: o Kit is being issued to keep V6.2 common images at the same ECO level as the VAXDOSD06_062 kit. There are no new fixes in this kit. Problems Addressed in the VAXMANA01_070 Kit for OpenVMS VAX V6.2: o SYSMAN DO commands that result in very long output records result in errors similar to the following: -RMS-F-SYS, QIO system service request failed -SYSTEM-F-MBTOOSML, mailbox is too small for request There may be some SYSMAN truncation errors also. o The SYSMAN PARAM SET command, when executed on a cluster, would return with an extraneous NOMORENODE error message. o With the SYSMAN DO command, certain DCL commands that do not have output (e.g. SYSMAN> DO DEFINE XXX YYY) would take at least 10 seconds/node to complete. Problems Addressed in the VAXMANA01_062 Kit: o SYSMAN accommodates the use of a ! character at the beginning of its command line. All characters subsequent to the ! are ignored and processing is passed to the next SYSMAN> prompt. In OpenVMS V6.2, a regression in behavior occurred causing a ! character at the beginning of a SYSMAN command line to return the following warning: %CLI-W-NOCOMD, no command on line - reenter with alphabetic first character INSTALLATION NOTES: The images in this kit will not take effect until the system is rebooted. If there are other nodes in the VMScluster, they must also be rebooted in order to make use of the new image(s). If it is not possible or convenient to reboot the entire cluster at this time, a rolling re-boot may be performed.
