OpenVMS ALPINST01_062 Alpha V6.2 - 6.2-1H3 Install ECO Summary

TITLE: OpenVMS ALPINST01_062 Alpha V6.2 - 6.2-1H3 Install ECO Summary Modification Date: 28-AUG-98 Modification Type: DOCUMENTATION: Technical Modification: This kit is also applicable to OpenVMS Alpha V6.2-1H1, V6.2-1H2 and V6.2-1H3. NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which can be used to install the ECO. Copyright (c) Digital Equipment Corporation 1995, 1998. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: OpenVMS Alpha COMPONENT: INSTALL.EXE SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: ALPINST01_062 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: None ECO Kit Approximate Size: 390 Blocks Kit Applies To: OpenVMS Alpha V6.2, V6.2-1H1, V6.2-1H2, V6.2-1H3 System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: Yes NOTE: According to OpenVMS Engineering, the fixes discussed in this article have been included in OpenVMS Alpha V7.0. There are some fixes that have been included in previous versions of OpenVMS and those versions are specified in text following the problem descriptions. ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for INSTALL.EXE on OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 through V6.2-1H3. This kit addresses the following problem: o When using the old MCR interface to INSTALL ($ MCR INSTALL or $ RUN SYS$SYSTEM:INSTALL), any ADD, REPLACE or DELETE command hangs. In addition, after exiting from INSTALL, the process still holds a PW mode lock on the INSTALL$INSLOCK resource. The existence of this 'dangling' PW mode lock causes any subsequent INSTALL command to execute slowly. INSTALLATION NOTES: In order for the corrections in this kit to take effect, the system must be rebooted. If the system is a member of a VMScluster, the entire cluster must be rebooted.
