PRODUCT: Tru64 UNIX [R] V4.0E
SOURCE: Compaq Computer Corporation
ECO INFORMATION:
ECO Name: LMF_V40E010
ECO Kit Approximate Size: 41KB
Kit Applies To: Tru64 UNIX V4.0E
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
The LMF (License Management Facility) application distributed with certain
versions and patch kit of Tru64 UNIX V4.0D and V4.0E does not properly
handle (1) a certain range of dates using a particular date format and
(2) one specific date. The impact of these problems IS NOT SERIOUS. Easy
procedural workarounds and fixes are available which remedy the problems.
Therefore, there should be no reason for concern or alarm.
These problems EXIST in the following Tru64 UNIX versions and patch kits:
V4.0D SSB (i.e., Inaugural) Release
V4.0D Patch Kit 1
V4.0D Patch Kit 2
V4.0D Patch Kit 3
V4.0E SSB (i.e. Inaugural) Release
V4.0E Patch Kit 1
These problems DO NOT exist in the following Tru64 UNIX versions and patch
kits:
V4.0D Patch Kit 4
V4.0D Patch Kit 5
V4.0E Patch Kit 2
V4.0F SSB (i.e. Inaugural) Release
V4.0F Patch Kit 1
V4.0G
V5.0
PROBLEM SYMPTOMS:
The following sections describe the two problems which exist in the above
versions of LMF.
(1) LMF improperly handles 2-digit versions of years between 2000 and
2068 - i.e., 00 through 68.
Impact: Minimal
All licenses which Compaq distributes use a 4-digit date format.
Only users performing interactive LMF commands would use 2-digit
dates.
Example:
# lmf cancel 10-APR-00 OSF-USR
Invalid argument 10-apr-00
Usage : lmf cancel [ [ ]]
Workaround:
Use 4-digit dates in interactive lmf commands.
Example:
# lmf cancel 10-APR-2000 OSF-USR
(2) LMF does not recognize the date 29-FEB-2000 as a release date on
any paks.
Impact:
Paks with a release date of 29-FEB-2000 will not install.
Example:
# lmf cancel 29-FEB-2000 OSF-USR
Invalid argument 29-feb-2000
Usage : lmf cancel [ [ ]]
Workaround:
Obtain a pak from the software vendor that does not contain a release
date of 29-FEB-2000.
Patch Information:
This patch is Tru64 UNIX V4.0D. The installation instructions are
as follows:
