ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for Digital UNIX V3.0. This kit addresses the following

o Corrects a system panic caused by a Windows95 or WindowsNT
system sending an illegal length ping ( ICMP ) packet.
     This patch is MANDATORY.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

This patch contains the following inventory:

     /usr/sys/BINARY/ip_input.o subset OSFBIN300
     CHECKSUM: 56188 37 RCSfile: ip_input.c RCS: 4.4.81.2

The following instructions assume the OSF300-277.d.tar.Z patch compressed
tar file is in directory /tmp

 As superuser, do:

     # cd /tmp
     # uncompress -d OSF300-277.d.tar.Z
     # tar xpvf OSF300-277.d.tar

Patch files and cover letter are in subdirectory /tmp/patches/OSF300-277

Shutdown the system to single-user mode

 Preserve the old version(s):

     #cd /usr/sys/BINARY
     #mv ip_input.o ip_input.o.pre..OSF300-277

Install the new file(s) and any hard links:

     #cd /usr/sys/BINARY
     #cp -p /tmp/patches/OSF300-277/ip_input.o .

Assuming that the name of the system is "MYSYS", build a new kernel:

     /usr/sbin/doconfig or
     /usr/sbin/doconfig -c MYSYS

Note the locaton of the newly built kernel reported by doconfig.

Verify that there is sufficient disk space, then save existing kernel:

     cd /
     cp -p vmunix vmunix.pre..OSF300-277

 Copy the new kernel:

     cp -p /usr/sys/MYSYS/vmunix /vmunix

To use the new kernel, you must shutdown and reboot the system.

Follow your standard system shutdown and reboot procedures so that your users
and other processes are handled properly.
