DSNlink Version 2.2D for OpenVMS Readme First 4-October-1999 Dear Customer, This letter contains a brief description of DSNlink Version 2.2D for OpenVMS software. It also explains how to copy the kit to your system from either the DSNlink Web site or an FTP directory and what to do after you copy the kit. The following are the topics in this letter: 1.0 About DSNlink Version 2.2D for OpenVMS 2.0 File Names and Sizes 3.0 Download the Files Using Anonymous FTP 4.0 Download the Files From the Web Site 5.0 After You Copy the Files 1 About DSNlink Version 2.2D for OpenVMS DSNlink is a service tool that allows Compaq customers to re- ceive product support electronically from their Customer Support Center. Customers can use DSNlink to submit service requests, copy files, and search technical support databases for arti- cles and engineering change orders. Product specialists respond to service requests electronically and, if granted permission, can also log in to a customer's system to diagnose and correct problems remotely. DSNlink Version 2.2D is an engineering change order (ECO) kit. It contains bug fixes and supporting new features. The previous ECO kit, DSNlink Version 2.2C, is included in the DSNlink Ver- sion 2.2D kit. You must have DSNlink Version 2.2 or 2.2C on your system to install DSNlink Version 2.2D. The supported versions of OpenVMS are 6.2, 7.1, and 7.2. 1.1 What's New in DSNlink Version 2.2D? DSNlink Version 2.2D has the following new features: o A new modem error recovery protocol significantly reduces modem connection problems due to data overruns. Errors are detected and corrected. o The Configuration utility has been modified to allow you to set up a single TCP/IP port for all DSNlink applications. The alternative is one port going through your firewall for each application. Previously, you had to edit your route map and then regener- ate it to create a single port. o There is a new modem testing utility that checks your modem setup. o When you create or augment a service request using OpenVMS Mail, the message is submitted to batch queues for processing. o You can now mail yourself a copy of the confirmation message when you augment a service request. Many problems have been fixed. For detailed information, see the DSNlink Version 2.2D for OpenVMS Release Notes. 2 File Names and Sizes Make sure your system has enough free disk space before copying the files. The software kits and their approximate sizes in blocks are listed in Table 1. ________________________________________________________________ Table_1:__Software_Kits_________________________________________ Installed Compressed Uncompressed Size in File System____File_Name_________Save_Set__________Blocks_____Size___ Alpha DSNLINKD022.A_ DSNLINKD022.A 20,100 11,300 DCX_AXPEXE VAX DSNLINKD022.A_ DSNLINKD022.A 20,100 11,500 __________DCX_VAXEXE____________________________________________ The compressed file you download has a save set for both Alpha and VAX systems. Uncompress the DSNLINKD022.A_DCX_AXPEXE or DSNLINKD022.A_DCX_ VAXEXE file with the RUN command. If you don't specify any, it will use the original name of the file before it was compressed, and create it in the current directory. If you specify a directory name, the file will be created in that directory. Decompress into (file specification): Opening and checking compressed file...
