Images Affected: - [SYSEXE]SYS$SMHANDLER_SLAVE_2608.EXE 6.1.1.2 CLDs, and QARs reporting this problem: 6.1.1.3 CLD(s) 70-3-7336,CFS.102378 6.1.1.4 QAR(s) None. 6.1.1.5 Problem Analysis: Typographical error. 6.1.1.6 Work-arounds: None. 7 NEW FUNCTIONALITY INTRODUCED IN THE VMS731_CPU2608-V0100 KIT 7.1 Handling of critical environmental errors on DS25 and future, similar DS systems. 7.1.1 Functionality Description: The change introduces a new image, SYS$SMHANDLER_SLAVE_2608.EXE, which handles critical environmental errors on DS25 and future, similar DS platforms. All of the failure conditions handled by this image are detected by system firmware, which will power off the system to prevent damage. This change provides for controlled shutdown of OpenVMS before the system is powered off. For DS25 systems, OpenVMS shutdown is initiated if the system door remains open for 5 minutes or more. Previous behavior did not provide for controlled shutdown in this case. Page 4 Images Affected: [SYSEXE]SYS$SMHANDLER_SLAVE_2608.EXE 8 PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN THIS KIT 8.1 New problems addressed in the VMS731_CPU2608-V0100 kit 8.1.1 Open Door causes thermal override system crash 8.1.1.1 Problem Description: For DS25 systems, if the door was left open too long (more than 5 minutes) a thermal override would occur and the system would crash with no indication of why. With this change, the system will inform the user of the door open error and initiate a normal shutdown. Images Affected: - [SYS$LDR]SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_2608.EXE 8.1.1.2 CLDs, and QARs reporting this problem: 8.1.1.3 CLD(s) None. 8.1.1.4 QAR(s) None. 8.1.1.5 Problem Analysis: When an environmental error such as an open door occurs, an ID needs to be passed to the SYS$SMHANDLER_SLAVE_2608.EXE module so that it can handle the error. For DS25 systems, this change properly passes the ID needed to handle the door open condition. 8.1.1.6 Work-arounds: None. Page 5 9 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: 9.1 Installation Command Install this kit with the POLYCENTER Software installation utility by logging into the SYSTEM account, and typing the following at the DCL prompt: PRODUCT INSTALL VMS731_CPU2608 /SOURCE=[location of Kit] The kit location may be a tape drive, CD, or a disk directory that contains the kit. Additional help on installing PCSI kits can be found by typing HELP PRODUCT INSTALL at the system prompt 9.2 Scripting of Answers to Installation Questions During installation, this kit will ask and require user response to several questions. If you wish to automate the installation of this kit and avoid having to provide responses to these questions, you must create a DCL command procedure that includes the following definitions and commands: - $ DEFINE/SYS NO_ASK$BACKUP TRUE - $ DEFINE/SYS NO_ASK$REBOOT TRUE - Add the following qualifiers to the PRODUCT INSTALL command and add that command to the DCL procedure. /PROD=DEC/BASE=AXPVMS/VER=V2.0 - De-assign the logicals assigned For example, a sample command file to install the VMS731_CPU2608-V0200 kit would be: $ $ DEFINE/SYS NO_ASK$BACKUP TRUE $ DEFINE/SYS NO_ASK$REBOOT TRUE $! $ PROD INSTALL VMS731_CPU2608/PROD=DEC/BASE=AXPVMS/VER=V2.0 $! $ DEASSIGN/SYS NO_ASK$BACKUP $ DEASSIGN/SYS NO_ASK$REBOOT $! $ exit Page 6 10 COPYRIGHT AND DISCLAIMER: (C) Copyright 2003 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
