HP Services Software Patches - vaxsys16_061

NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.

Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will
be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
can be used to install the ECO.

*OpenVMS] VAXSYS16_061 VAX V6.1 Working Set Management ECO Summary

Copyright (c) Digital Equipment Corporation 1994, 1996. All rights reserved.

OP/SYS: OpenVMS VAX

COMPONENT: Working Set Management

SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation

ECO INFORMATION:

     ECO Kit Name: VAXSYS16_061
ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: VAXSYS02_061 (CSCPAT_1185)
ECO Kit Approximate Size: 126 Blocks
Kit Applies To: OpenVMS VAX V6.1
     System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: Yes

ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO (patch) kit exists for Working Set Management on OpenVMS VAX V6.1.
This kit addresses the following problem:

Problems Addressed in VAXSYS16_061:

o $PURGWS executes at elevated IPL. For processes with very
large working sets (hundreds of thousands of pages) this can
mean several seconds at IPL8. This causes other things to
break and time-out (e.g., cluster connections).

This problem is corrected in OpenVMS VAX V6.2

Problems Addressed in VAXSYS02_061:

o Beginning with OpenVMS VAX V6.0, creation of a detached process
or a subprocess results in the permanent loss of 4 pages from
the process page file quota. Repeat spawning will eventually
deplete the process page file quota.

This problem was fixed in OpenVMS VAX V6.2.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

In order for the corrections in this kit to take effect, the system
must be rebooted. If the system is a member of a VMScluster, the
entire cluster should be rebooted.
