OpenVMS ALPRTPA01_071 Alpha V7.1 CTDRIVER ECO Summary
TITLE: OpenVMS ALPRTPA01_071 Alpha V7.1 CTDRIVER ECO Summary

NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.

Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will
be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
can be used to install the ECO.

ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for CTDRIVER on OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 through V7.1-1H2.
This kit addresses the following problems:

o When an I/O error occurred, an attempt to remove the current I/O
Request Packet (IRP) was done. If a buffer was associated with this
IRP, then the buffer was deallocated. Before the IRP itself was
removed, the caller was returned and the IRP was untouched (left
hanging), which made the piece of memory unusable. Over a period
of time, the memory leak (loss) of nonpaged pool in the system could
be exhausted. The system would need to be rebooted in order for the
     memory to become usable again.

The problem occurred when the connection was broken between a client
and a server for a message over one buffer in length.

o The problem could be an ACCVIO resulting in a process hang or a
system crash. The user could see corruption of the upper bits
(R9/R10 registers) in several different ways, depending on the use
     of registers.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

The images in this kit will not take effect until the system is
rebooted. If there are other nodes in the VMScluster, they must
also be rebooted in order to make use of the new image(s).

If it is not possible or convenient to reboot the entire cluster at
this time, a rolling re-boot may be performed.
