OpenVMS ALPDPML01_071 DPML Routines for OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 ECO Summary
TITLE: OpenVMS ALPDPML01_071 DPML Routines for OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 ECO Summary

NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.

Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will
be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
can be used to install the ECO.

     System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: Yes

Installation Rating: 3 - To be installed on all systems running
the listed versions of OpenVMS which
                                are experiencing the problems described.

ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for DIGITAL Portable Math Library (DPML) on OpenVMS
Alpha V7.1 through V7.1-1H2. This kit addresses the following problems:

o After upgrading from OpenVMS alpha V7.0 to V7.1, an application
calling a DPML (DPML$SHR.EXE) routine failed with a
     %SYSTEM-F_HPARITH error.

o The problem statement for this QAR included a small program
     which showed that

         pow ( 4.079442787314344e-16, 20. )

failed with compiled with -D-FASTMATH, but worked otherwise.
The equivalent VMS scenario produces an HPARITH trap caused by
using a denormal value as an operand.

o MATH$NXTAFTR_F and MATH$NXTAFTR_G were returning an incorrect
value when an overflow condition occurred.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

Install this kit with the VMSINSTAL utility by logging into the
SYSTEM account, and typing the following at the DCL prompt:

@SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL ALPDPML01_071 [location of the saveset]

The saveset location may be a tape drive, or a disk directory that
contains the kit saveset.

System should be rebooted after successful installation of the kit.
If you have other nodes in your VMScluster, they should also be
rebooted in order to make use of the new image(s).
