OpenVMS ALPDCL02_071 Alpha V7.1 - V7.1-1H2 DCL ECO Summary
|
TITLE: OpenVMS ALPDCL02_071 Alpha V7.1 - V7.1-1H2 DCL ECO Summary
NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.
Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will
be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
can be used to install the ECO.

ECO KIT SUMMARY:
An ECO kit exists for DCL on OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 through V7.1-1H2.
This kit addresses the following problems:
Problems Addressed in ALPDCL02_071
o With multiple kernel threads enabled, applications which use
the C runtime library routine GETENV may fail due to the stack
of the calling thread being corrupted. This problem usually
occurs as random access violations. The bad address is always
a process identification (PID) of one of the kernel threads in
the process.
Applications which use GETENV may also hang with all threads in
the HIB state. The initial kernel thread will have user mode
ASTs disabled.
Problems Addressed in ALPDCL01_071
o During a terminal hangup condition, the DCL handler would
close open RMS files prior to image rundown and, consequently,
prior to execution of any image exit handlers. This would
cause a variety of symptoms including execution loops with
condition handlers and loss of data with language RTLs that
buffer file data.
o With multiple kernel threads enabled, applications which use
certain C runtime library routines may fail due to corruption
of R11 on the initial kernel thread. This usually presents
itself as random access violation failures.
INSTALLATION NOTES:
The system does not need to be rebooted after this kit is installed.
However, if the system is a member of a VMScluster, the other cluster
members should be rebooted or this kit should be installed on each
system in order to make use of the new image(s).
