OP/SYS: OpenVMS AXP
COMPONENTS: DEBUG
SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation
ECO INFORMATION:
ECO Kit Name: AXPDEBU01_015
ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: None
ECO Kit Approximate Size: 5620 blocks
Kit Applies To: OpenVMS AXP V1.5 - V1.5-1H1
System Reboot Necessary: No
ECO KIT SUMMARY:
An ECO kit exists for DEBUG on OpenVMS AXP V1.5 - V1.5-1H1. This kit
addresses the following problems:
Problems addressed in the AXPDEBU01_015 kit:
o With FORTRAN, the debugger generates an ACCVIO on the
DBG> SET IMAGE ... command.
This problem is fixed in OpenVMS AXP V6.1.
o The OpenVMS AXP V1.5 debugger would hang when attempting to step
over PAL_IMB calls or MACRO-64 IMB instructions.
NOTE: To identify a OpenVMS AXP V1.5 debugger hang as a step/over
IMB problem when debugging a higher level language, it is
necessary to look at the instruction view and check for the
presence of an IMB instruction.
This problem is fixed in OpenVMS AXP V6.1.
o Because of a memory leak in conditional expression evaluation,
the OpenVMS AXP V1.5 debugger would sometimes enter an infinite
error loop of "%DEBUG-E-NOFREE, no free storage available" errors.
This leak is only a problem when the user RARELY gains control.
That is, if the program/debugger runs for some extended time
often stopping to check the conditional but rarely giving
control over to the user. For example, SET BREAK %LINE 9 WHEN
(X == 100000) would be evaluated 99999 times before the
breakpoint takes and the user gains control.
This problem is fixed in OpenVMS AXP V6.1.
o ANALYZE/PROCESS_DUMP or ^Y-DEBUG debugger startups would ACCVIO
and hang.
This problem is fixed in OpenVMS AXP V6.1.
INSTALLATION NOTES:
The system does not need to be rebooted after this kit is installed.
However, if you have other nodes in your VMScluster, they should be
rebooted or you should install this kit on each system in order to make
use of the new image(s).
